I felt like I was at a summer camp in a horror movie in the woods. I arrived at 6pm everyone was extremely nice to my luggage and said goodbyes. Once I got situated around 6.30 I asked for dinner, they said kitchen is closed, there are snacks in the kitchen(np). Went to bed, they woke me up at 5AM to take my blood, decided to go back to sleep wake up 10 I asked for breakfast. They said kitchen is closed snacks in the kitchen again. Now I was getting frustrated with the situation. They told me there would be extreme therapy treaments but they decided to send me to a bunker for three days with one other person w cold meals and a tv. I called an Uber that Saturday morning and left. Now they’re sending me mail to pay for my fee. That I originally paid for. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE.

What others have said- do not send your loved ones here. Worst experience of my life. AA cultish atmosphere. Appalling lack of communication between treatment team. Was experiencing significant physical illness symptoms while I was there that were disregarded quickly. I complained of dizziness at one point (I later learned was a side effect of the medication they had prescribed although it was never communicated by nursing or the Dr. ) I told my therapist I was worried about falling on the stairs from dizziness and was told “that’s what elevators are for.” At one point I was feeling so ill I communicated to a staff member I thought was going to pass out and was told to go back to my room. My therapist actually suggested I would benefit from trauma therapy after I left Caron from trauma CAUSED by my stay AT CARON. The doctor I was assigned to was horrible and at times cruel. Residential staff were largely unsupportive and some staff members were inappropriate at times (e.g. waking people up at night demanding they fill out a survey) Admissions will tell you whatever it takes to get you in the door and provides misinformation about tailoring a personalized program but this facility does not care about you at all.

Absolutely awful experience, they lured me in with “trails you can walk” “music friendly” and “you get a Crome Book… there’s only one trail which you are not allowed to walk, I’m a musician and it seems they were taking my guitar out of my hand more than letting me play, and the only thing you can do on your cromebook is check appointments. Staff were extremely unwelcoming, mean, and I could sum up in 20 minutes what I learned here… PLEASE IF YOU OR A LOVED ONE ARE SERIOUS ABOUT SOBRIETY DO NOT GO HERE… Blue Crest in Clifton NJ is a far superior treatment center Honestly the only thing that was good here was the food.

What sober living facilities are near Caron treatment Center in Pennsylvania

Lori Porter | Nov 3, 2018
Jeremy Frank PhD CADC | Nov 3, 2018

Definitely call Caron and ask them. They'll be well connected to the sober homes and recovery houses there. Ask to speak to a psychologist or certified alcohol and drug counselor so they can recommend a good one. A lot of folks get sent to addiction treatment that is far from where they live and that's not necessary and can even interfere in being able to put together a really comprehensive recovery program in the area in which someone lives which is local. There's not a lot of evidence to suggest going away to treatment is any better than staying in your location.

I'm a psychologist with 2 questions: 1. Which drug test kit would you recommend for a 17 y.o. who admitted using pot, and possibly other drugs? 2. Do you do OP assessment to r/o D&A abuse/dependence?

Susan Cabouli | Nov 3, 2018
Jeremy Frank PhD CADC | Nov 3, 2018

Any outpatient addiction psychologist or certified alcohol and drug counselor would do a level of care assessment. Caron could do that and any IOP place would do that as well though the higher level of care places would still tend to bring someone in at that level. Even if someone is"dependent" or"abusing" that definitely does not mean they need inpatient. Regarding the UDSs any CVS type screen with enough panels to get the biggies, benzos, weed, opiates, cocaine, stimulants whatever you suspect. Call me if you have questions.
