Camp Colman is a well tended YMCA camp in the Longbranch area right on south Puget Sound. It has very decent cabins with restrooms that include a shower and a very large dining hall. I went on a 3 days 2 nights school trip. It's a fabulous place for kids with a wide variety of well supervised by camp staff of activities. Camp food was quite good & kids ate well. Kids were included with dining room meal set up & cleanup. All seemed to have an enjoyable time. Parents should not hesitate to send their kids for summer camp sessions.

Was very dissapointed about the accommodations at this place. The cabins were so dirty. Bathrooms looked like they had never been cleaned. Showers were so disgusting We had all the kids shower with sandals on. Toilets were yellow, half of the times would not flush and gross! Mall bathrooms are way cleaner than this place! Went to brush my teeth and the water coming out was brown. Was so upset watching my kid and other children having to use those facilities in that place. So grossed out! While having breakfast another adult came up and told me how there was rat droppings on their dining table and how it got wiped down like nothing. I'm pretty sure that against all health codes. Rat droppings around food. I don't know...just disgusting!! Food was unappetizing, cold and not good. For amount of money you have to pay to go there its not worth it! I'm giving it 1 start because the instructors are great! Kids did learn something!! But to me its not worth it! having to put up with the dirty rooms, dirty bathrooms, risking getting sick..etc Luckily I got to come and check this place out with my own eyes.

For seven years my daughter has proudly been a camper thanks to the generosity and financial aid of the YMCA. This is her home away from home with different adventurous memories every year. She always looks forward to eating Goop, earning the highest ranked swimming badge, and meeting new friends at this incredibly inclusive camp. The staff are amazing and every interaction, from registering in December, to confirming her health and safety packet, to picking her up after she's done. I am always bragging and have recruited her other friends to join and they have a stronger bond because of it. Camp is important so if you're considering donating towards this cause, I can assure you, it is a worthy one.

How do you handle transgender cases?

Transgender kids and families are welcome and treated with respect and dignity, the same as anyone who attends. Kids may go by their name of choice, as well as gender. They may also choose cabin gender assignment (for now, girls or boys) and can expect a safe, loving experience. Camp staff undergo specific inclusion-based training and are dedicated to creating a community that embraces and respects everyone. LGBTQ counselors are always available to talk and offer support. (Outside of summer camp, they also offer an LGBTQ family friendly weekend to get acquainted with the place.) In summer: We love seeing all the lovely young faces each year, including a number of trans and gay youth. Our children ❤️ Camp Colman!

Responder Maia summed it up very nicely. I was there a week ago with a school group 3 days & 2 nights & the kids had a great time & learned some things too.
