Came to see where Dewey Read more Books used to live and hang out. Had a tour from a really friendly staff and we got to see all the key areas. Sure which we would have been able to meet the kitty but it was neat touring the place. It was an old building and very busy the day we were there. Good to see the library used.

First time experiencing this library and was happy about the visit. Was able to use the wifi and my own laptop. There was space for me to plug my phone and laptop chargers without hassles. Will definitely visit again. 💜

Yes, she is still alive, although she retired from the library many years ago.
Dewey Readmore Books was the resident cat at Spencer Public Library from 1988 to 2006. Former Library Director Vicki Myron wrote about him in her book "Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World". For more information, check out his page on our website at: http://www.spencerlibrary.com/p/dewey-library-cat.html or his page on wikipedia at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dewey_Readmore_Books
The book drop is in the alley on the back of the building.
No you do not need a card to go in. But to check items out and maybe to use computer. Easy to get one and great place.
No she is retired
From the library website: Dewey passed away on November 29, 2006 due to complications from a stomach tumor. He had become very frail because of hyperthyroid disease for which he was receiving medication. He died in the arms of the library director, Vicki Myron. He had celebrated his 19th birthday eleven days before he died. Although Dewey is gone, he will be remembered by thousands of people whom he cheered by simply being a loving presence in the library. Dewey will never be replaced. The library won't be the same without him. Dewey's memory lives on. He is an official member of the Library Cat Society and was a contributing author on several occasions using Vicki Myron, the library director, as his scribe. Vicki has written an adult book about her life with Dewey at Spencer Public Library, published September 24th, 2008. Vicki has retired from the library, but you can contact her at: Vicki Myron P.O. I believe all you need is an ID
