I travel extensively for business, domestically and internationally. And without question, what makes a hotel exceptional as far as clean rooms, excellent food service, and accommodating staff -- is the property's General Manager. The Courtyard by Marriott in Middlebury, Vermont, has an ace running the hotel. Her name is Karrie Lamere. Today when I returned from a long day, my room somehow had not been serviced. When I called the front desk, I explained that my room had not been cleaned and could I please get it serviced. The response was amazing. The person said, "I'll be happy to take care of it now and bring you fresh towels and coffee." I was delighted with the person's tone, willingness to please, and sense of timing -- to take care of the misstep without delay. I was surprised to discover that the person who immediately volunteered to roll up her sleeves and pitch in was Karrie, the hotel's GM. I was so impressed. No wonder the staff here has a positive attitude, and all are very customer focused. Karrie is an asset to the Marriott brand. I highly recommend this hotel. My stay exceeded expectations.

No hot water at 9 pm. Told to run water for 20 minutes & call back if still no hot water. Did so & checked valve under sink to make certain was open. Spoke with 2nd person 20 minutes later as still cold. They were checking with maintenance & would call back. Now 10:30 pm-no call. Also blackout curtains would not close completely. We have stayed here before with no problems.

All the staff here were very welcoming and friendly! The style of the hotel rooms haven't been refreshed in a while and are starting to show their age, but everything was clean, functional, and comfortable. I really appreciated the ability to buy a warm breakfast at the bistro in the morning - many other courtyards are only offering coffee/pastry right now.

This is a solid hotel stay. Room was clean and quiet so that's a big deal, although desk chair was beyond its useful life (bonded leather seat was peeling badly) Not a ton of hotel amenities. Pool was closed. Workout room fits 4 people and is too small to share safely during Covid. They use an under the window unit for heat and A/C and those are always a bit noisy. There may have been other things to do but they were not pointed out when we checked in and our room had no hotel info/map etc. (We noticed a small outdoor fire pit during checkout, but not sure that was in service). Restaurant wasn't open the night we arrived. Breakfast was available for purchase at a very reasonable price-- was kind of an expanded Starbucks menu of breakfast sandwiches, continental breakfast, eggs. Overall, I'd stay here again for a business trip but seemed a bit expensive for hotel class and amenities and could maybe use a bit of TLC. Note: I just learned that until a couple weeks ago, this hotel was housing a number of homeless individuals during Covid. I personally applaud this program and mention it only as it might explain my experience-- perhaps the hotel is in a bit of transition between that program and the fall when students return to Middlebury (with parents in tow). Just a guess on my part-- might well be wrong!
