This used to be one of my go to sushi places YEARS ago (maybe around 2006 or 2007). And let me say, we do eat sushi quite a bit. My son got gyoza that was not bad. I ordered the salmon avocado roll which was ok but really small and probably not something I'd order again. I also got the crunch eel which also just ok but the best out of the 4 rolls my wife and I ordered. My wife ordered the dynamite roll and the spicy tuna roll. Right off the bat she noticed the tuna was looking way redder than usual and she always gets spicy tuna every time we get sushi. She took a bite and immediately noticed that is tasted fishier than any tuna she's had. I tasted it and it tasted alright at first but the aftertaste had some kind of strong chemical taste to it and the taste stuck in my mouth throughout the whole meal actually kind of causing my stomach to get a little upset. I took a bite of the ginger hoping that would take the taste out of my mouth but it did not. She couldn't even finish her rolls, unfortunately they both had the same tuna on it. She attempted to scrape the tuna of but that did not help. Honestly the worse sushi I've had in a very long time. The workers were nice but I think they were short on staff because it did take a long time to get our food and they now serve everything on Styrofoam plates. I was excited to eat here tonight but unfortunately I'd probably never go back after that experience.

If you ever crave some quality sushi, Gari is the place to go.

*This is not Trappers* This is as close as you will get to authentic sushi without going to Japan or a highend Sushi bar in Seattle area. If you enjoy the real deal and not just rolls covered in sause, this is for you. (Sashimi plate or combo B) If you just want sause and fancy looking food go to the other spot mentioned above. Pricey, but worth the cost.

While the exterior of this restaurant isn't too inviting, and often it looks like it might be closed (especially in Covid times), the interior is very nice and inviting. Gari offers delicious rolls at a competitive price, and the fish has always tasted excellent. The chef, Kazu, has received multiple certificates from Japan, which are proudly mounted next to various news articles about him and the restaurant. I have yet to be disappointed with anything I've eaten from here. This is our go-to for sushi in Tacoma.

Great! everyone wears a mask I visit often
Thank you, will try it out !
They have a parking lot that can hold about 20 cars
I dont think so, but they are VERY delicious! Aside fr raw fish items, they have great cooked food, too. For A.Y.C.E. near-ish, there's a Sushi Revolution on Garfield by PLU...
