Finally made it and I can say it is worth it. Do make research before visiting so you will be prepared.

Worth the trip to see these unique stone columns. If you are not driving 4WD, I would suggest you park at the first parking lot which is very close to paved road, then you need to walk 1.7 miles to reach the second parking lot where you can see the stone columns down the hill. There is a very bumpy hill I think only 4WD car can handle.

Awesome. Great view. Interesting. Natural fantasy, as spectacular as the Temple of Athena, the rocks on the ground are like collapsed and broken rocks! ! ! This pile of stones is my masterpiece! ! ! hahahahaha

Another amazing place near road 395. If you doesn’t drive with a 4x4 Jeep or pickup, it might be very challenging for the last 1.7 miles. You might end up with a hike in a hot and sunburn environment. But as long as you reach it you will feel it is really worth. Try to go there before summer. It is still beautiful in summer and autumn but the water level dropped a lot.

Yes, you can hike to the columns You should take owens gorge rd from 395 not from the Benton crossing rd
Yes a few different ways to get there, get a forest service map and do a little research, I drove it last week, I think it would be easier from the dam side
The best time is in the summer as the water level is low, so you can walk through the columns.
I will say that it's less than 0.25 mile, but with a steep trail, and also you absolutely need a high clearence 4wd or an off road car to get to the parking lot, otherwise you have to walk 1.7 miles.
Yes, you will not be able to reach it by regular car. That being said, there was a Subaru Crosstrek and Outback there when we went so you don't need a lot of extra clearance. AWD or 4WD helps too but isn't mandatory.
Absolutely..it is crystal clear and pristeen
