We hired Dearman Moving to help unload a POD and the movers themselves were fine, but the issues are with the charges. We were charged a 'Truck Charge' for $285.00 along with a 'Fuel Surcharge' of $88.20 for the movers to come to our house. We agreed to these charges in the original quote since we assumed the movers would drive a box truck to our home and the company needs to maintain their fleet, pay for the gas for the large truck, and pay for the employees time driving to our home. The movers instead came to our home in their personal vehicle, which we have no problem with. When I called the company and spoke to a manager regarding that the total charge of $373.20 was completely unreasonable since there was no company truck brought to my house, I was told that is the flat rate for the movers to show up. I informed them that any reasonable customer would infer that a 'Truck Charge' was due to a large company truck being used (which needs more gas, maintenance, insurance, etc.), I was dismissed and told that is the charge and I signed the paperwork (which once again did not state POV use and I would never have agreed to pay someone that much to drive to my home in their small car). Would not recommend to anyone even though they gave me a veteran discount since the extra charges meant that I paid the same as a large company vehicle came to my house, yet it did not. I find this absolutely unacceptable and unbelievable after moving all around this world.

This is kind of a two part question. The first part is “What areas do we service and do in home estimates?” We travel anywhere within Ohio to do estimates and sometimes to neighboring states. But, with today’s technologies we’re not limited to doing estimates by traveling to your residence. We can do video estimates and phone estimates as well. The second part of the question “How far do we move people?” We move people all over the world. We are part of the largest household good moving company United Van Lines and we have a network and infrastructure to do moves anywhere in the world. 99 percent of our moves happen within the continental United States though and we’ve observed that over the last few years probably 50% of our moves out of the midwest have been traveling to the Southeast (NC, SC, GA, FL, VA). We regularly have trucks running those routes.
The sooner the better, but at least 1-2 weeks on a local or in state move. 2-4 weeks if moving interstate.
30-60 days prior to when you think you are going to move is the best time to get an estimate.
We do not require one. Legitimate moving companies do not require moving deposits. Moving deposits are a red flag to being scammed on a move.
