Dayton Ohio is alright if you haven't been anywhere else! It's an extremely violent city, with some of the best trauma centers around. The low pay for public employees (Police and Fire/EMS) is pushing these employees to surrounding municipalities, thus driving crime up & response times down ultimately hurting the quality of life, business and the growth of the city. Homelessness and drug use is OUT OF CONTROL. Wright Patterson Airforce Base & Museum is located just to the east of the city. The museum is free and is really, really cool! It has thousands of new and old planes. It's well worth the visit. The Greene located south east of the city is a great place for outdoor shopping, entertainment (comedy club & movie theater) and FOOD! The Fairfield Mall area has a ton of shopping and eating as well. Located in downtown Dayton is Riverscape, a small outdoor park that in the winter has an ice rink, and in the summer several festivals come here with outstanding food. Located downtown is the Dragon's Stadium minor league baseball team. Tickets are reasonably priced and it's fun. At the airport in the summer the air show is cool too.... BUT HOT! The Schuster Center and Victoria Theater downtown has awesome shows! Especially the Schuster Center. Boonshoft Center is great for kids 8 and under. Has a small animal exhibit, interactive technology and engineering exhibits. Other then Riverscape, don't go to any of the parks in Dayton city limits. Go to the parks in Kettering like Hills and Dales and Cox Arboretum. Cox Arboretum is awesome!! Tons of flowers, turtles, frogs and butterflies at times. The parks North of the city Carriage Hill, Englewood Metro Park and Taylorsville Dam are awesome for hiking, running, cooking out, bike riding and picnicking. Woodlawn Cemetery is where the Wright Brothers, Paul Lawrence Dunbar and others are buried. They offer tours of this cemetery. The Dayton VA and Calvary Cemetery are cool as well. They both have some impressive head stones and history.
