Usual John Deere clueless and expensive

Had a John Deere d105 given to me in exchange for some work. I was told it didn’t want to go forward or backwards. I decided to take it to John Deere in Hammond and have it looked at. Get a call a couple days later and was told the transmission was bad that the drive pulley came apart and John Deere doesn’t sell them separately. They gave me a quote of $600 for a new transmission that I decided against. Took it home and decided to look into the issue myself. After removing the transmission and doing some research I found that the previous owner had installed the wrong sized belt. Bought a new belt online replaced it and put the transmission back on the mower. Drives like a champ. Either they tried to scam me out of my money or their mechanics are just incompetent. I wouldn’t trust them. Almost bought a brand new mower from them. Never will happen now.
