The reason I’m writing a review is because I had a situation that arose... I appreciate Alyssa helping me out today and resolving that issue. She was very welcoming, informative, helpful, and was understanding. As a member for 10+ years for Retro and Gold’s Gym, I appreciate her professionalism. Thank you so much girl for having my back and quickly bouncing me back into good spirit.

Not the worse experience but still note that the staff does not have a friendly demeanor. Seems like I was a bother when I ask for something and I'm brand new here. They do not have a guest pass to tryout the equiptment before signing so start by asking for a day pass. Mediocre. I will check out the competition before I commit to this one.

Two years ago I cancelled my membership with Retro by physically entering the Retro Fitness in Raritan. It was a gift from my mother, I told her I cancelled but she didn’t keep track of the charges. Months later she informed me she was still being charged (her fault for not telling me sooner my fault for trusting the manager of Retro). I went in to Retro yet again told them what happened and they admitted they made a mistake but refused to give my mother a credit but did extend my membership. I was reluctant but didn’t feel like arguing and decided to give it another try. I gave the reasons for cancelling i.e.: the locker room being filthy, broken doors, broken toilet seats, no paper towels. The staff either non existent or just plan rude. The floor of the gym dirty, broken machines, old worn out machines and equipment all over the floor. Well, nothing has changed. I called on Monday the 1st of August about a $42 charge…person couldn’t figure out what it was. First it was; my membership was upgraded, then it was a ‘yearly charge’ whatever that is. I asked to speak to a manager there wasn’t one there and was told someone would call me back…no one did. I did not upgrade my membership nor was informed about a yearly charge. I physically went to the Raritan location and was met by a staff member who refused to help me (as he was sipping on his smoothie) was downright disrespectful and completely unprofessional. I was told there was no manager and then miraculously one appeared. I asked about the charges was told I had to call corporate. I asked to cancel. She was truly awful. No customer service skills nor people skills. I asked for confirmation of my cancellation and was told I would get a email from corporate….one week later my membership is still active, no email no response from corporate. I never ever write negative reviews because quite frankly I don’t have the time. Oh and did I mention we all paid our dues during the Covid shut down and when this location had to shut down because it suffered loss due to a flood? Yes, we did without any form of compensation. Great way to run a business and reward loyalty. Once again I will try and cancel my membership. I will be filing complaints and giving negative reviews wherever I can and to whomever I can.
