It's a good place to buy a standardbred but entirely too far as the cost of shipping may be more than the horse itself

Such a shame...they have fields full of beautiful horses that need homes, but they didn't seem to have one for my wife??? That's a nice generic answer SRF! BTW... I now have a couple horses here on NJ, and in Ohio. And yes, they are just my pets. I don't ride them.... Just give them love. My wife already has her horse she rides, it wasn't about that. Someone at SRF was a jerk about letting us adopt a horse, or two, or three, cause they heard from a friend of a friend, of a friend of a friend from someone that doesn't get along with my wife!

The people at SRF Standardbred Retirement Foundation and people who work with SRF immediately upon my interest in one particular horse needing rescue helped me save and adopt this horse. From the beginning people who care about the standardbred stepped up to the plate and made it happen. Thank you SRF❤️.

The ladies that work this team are excellent. They interviewed me patiently and respectfully. The references I provided were carefully checked. The care and attention given to these horses, and finding them lifetime homes is remarkable. I recently adopted a mare and her surprise colt in NJ. The team was very accommodating regarding pickup, and information required. They have a difficult job to do. Not all horses can be used for riding or driving, many are companion horses needing a soft place to land. Additionally, they will see some very sad situations.

Yes, you can put it in the notation that it is an honor donation or you can mail in your donaton as well.

I saw a horse listed for adoption in Kentucky. Is there an adoption center there? That would be a,lot closer to where I live. Thank you Ruth

We have facilities located in several states, including Kentucky. You can fill out an application on our website at www.adoptahorse.org and once approved, we can see if any of our facilities located near you have the type of horse you want.

I thought the foundation was supposed to keep the horses OUT of the kill pens. I know a person whose husband is disabled, she took a few horses in on foster and she still has to pay for everything .

SRF will NEVER send any horse to the kill pens! Every SRF horse is followed for lifetime, thus avoiding the kills pens forever. SRF fosters are not paid to foster, although we do pay for vet services as long as the foster contacts SRF first. We hope that if the horse is a fit, the foster will adopt or help us find an adopter in their area. If an adopter is found, they go through the process of filling out our application. If the foster cannot afford the horses or can't care for the horses properly, then the foster needs to contact SRF immediately. The horses will be place at a new foster or brought to an SRF farm nearby. In no way do we push horses on fosters, it is up to the individual to sign into an agreement with SRF to foster horses and accept the terms within the contract. Hope this explains this more clearly. If not feel free to call our office at 609-738-3255, you can also see the foster contract on our website at Adoptahorse.org. Thank you!

Do you have anyone at your facility that can train 4 standardbreds for horse therapy? I'm inheriting 4 retired never ridden 13 , 14 year olds.

Unfortunately, no we do not do horse therapy.

What can I do volunteer wise in Indiana to help? I have horse experience and keep Standardbreds but they are in another state. Please advise!
