An amazing place to ride. In the Elachee woods, almost 20 miles of trails, from beginner to advanced. Lots of volunteers keep it maintained, and lots of parking for all. They even have a portable bathroom just in case...

I went last night and the gate was closed at 7:30. Still an hour and a half of daylight. This is by no means the first time...but who keeps tabs on this stuff? I've been a regular at this trail for more than 10 years but if I'm paying $5 to get in now I'm going to need to say something. Thank you though...I've always been leery about walking through.
$5 To go in for the day. Money goes to the trail maintance
After many years of analytical study, thoughtful consideration, and deliberation, the Chicopee Woods Area Park Commission unanimously voted to ban all dogs and pets from the Chicopee Woods Conservation Area, effective January 1, 2021. The Conservation Area includes the Chicopee Woods Mountain Bike Trails, the Chicopee Woods Nature Preserve Hiking Trails, all parking areas, Elachee Nature Science Center, and Chicopee Lake. This decision was not arrived at lightly, but has been made to protect native wildlife, fragile ecosystems, and enhance visitor safety.
You can do some hiking in the immediate trails, like tortoise or hare, but the trail system is too long to hike it all. And you will find a lot of mountain bikers and they have the right of way as this is a primarily MTB site.
There is not currently a race scheduled at Chicopee Woods Mountain Bike Trails for March. Thank you!
Nope, BYOB. Bring your own bike 😊
The Tortoise trail has some roots and rocky spots, but has relatively little elevation change. Probably not great for really small kids, but would be okay for kids who have a bit of cycling experience. I definitely see kids out there sometimes.
