What once was a thriving summer campground, full of kids, campfires, fishing and pool fun has now become a workman’s camp where residents leave at 5am and come home at 7pm, thanks to a new Toyota factory being built nearby. The residents are mostly construction folks who live in their RVs. This is a new dynamic for the owners. Rather than organizing bonfires for the campers and ready the store for families looking for a snow cone, the fire pit has become overgrown since there’s nobody who would want to partake in a fire, and the shelf items in the store are stagnant (with food items being quite out of date). Also, with the per diem workers making a big paycheck, the rate for a site has gone up too. Most spots are shaded or partially shaded, and most have full hookups. Some sites are VERY unlevel, but the staff is happy to bring over a loader scoop of gravel to fill in the low spots, cinderblocks, or whatever else will help you get set up. Cable TV/internet is available for purchase at the local Spectrum store in town. There IS free wifi available, but the signal is only in the main store area. AT&T gets 2 bars (out of four), T-Mobile gets 2 bars, and Verizon gets 2 bars. Water pressure is a steady 60 psi, and in the months I was there, power only went out twice, and only for a few seconds during heavy weather. I’m saddened to see the playground equipment being unused and unattended. The pool sits empty most days, the patio behind the store is unused, the soda machine and jukebox haven’t been plugged in for quite some time since the guests here come home after work tired and want nothing more than a shower and bed so they can do it all again the next day. All that being said, there are some transient sites available, and they’re the best ones in my opinion. Right next to the lake, a pretty view out of the RV windows, big stone fire rings, and every site comes with some complimentary fire wood for your first night. The campers leave each other alone, and the caretaker, John, is always on the lookout, so I routinely left my camper unlocked. Nobody is going to steal anything. I’m hoping that once the factory is built and the workers move on to the next job that the place will go back to a robust family campground. The big room in the office building was once full of kids on the video arcade machine, eating hot dogs in the booths, and playing on the pool table, but now it sits empty and unused. For transients and people looking for one or two nights, it’s perfect. The cost isn’t prohibitive, the staff is the most accommodating I’ve ever met, and the scenery is tranquil. I would absolutely come back here again.

Traveling medical professionals STAY AWAY!! I thought I was going to stay in one of the cabins for 13 weeks while I was here working, but I could barely stay two weeks. There is mold all over the ceiling from moisture coming from the shower, and it started making me feel sick. I got a gym membership just so I wouldn’t have to shower there. The blinds are broken on the front door, so I didn’t feel safe or like I had any privacy. One night around 8:30 I heard somebody knocking on my door. I was terrified and hid in the bathroom until I thought they’d be gone. I emailed the manager Wendy to ask if she had knocked since she was the only person I talked to at the campground. She was really hostile and completely rude to me. That was when I decided to find somewhere else to stay for the duration of my contract. I’m paying more than double what I was paying at that trailer park, and it’s worth EVERY cent! I’m more comfortable and I feel safe. I didn’t even mention all of the bugs and lizards that were a constant in the cabin. Spend your money elsewhere. This place is a complete dump!

This campground is right outside the city of Asheboro NC. It is situated beside a portion of Deep River and is very quiet. There are two pools (one open and very clean), a pond for fishing and some short trails to explore. There are a lot of ducks on the grounds. They did not bother you but there was a bit of excrement around so watch your step. I needed a space to get away for a few days and this was the perfect space. Campsites vary in size. Ours was a bit on the narrow side, but there was no one on the site to our passenger side, so we were okay. There is no real access to the River and you aren’t able to get in. Campsite size and no River access was my reason for the loss of a star. If you go to campgrounds for planned activities and to be busy, this one is not yours. If you camp to get away and find peace, this is perfect.

My wife and I stayed at Deep River for 2 months. It really is a great campground, quiet, clean and cozy. They have a laundry room, showers, camp store, pond, historic river and hiking trails. Shopping is also close as well as the zoo. Scott is very accommodating and will go out of his way to help you if need be. I would leave 10 stars if at all possible.
