I love this place and would really like to give it five stars but the parking situation is a problem. If you go on a weekend, from June to October, you will be parking a half mile from the lake. Maybe they should go to a reservation system like RMNP. I don't think that more parking is the answer as this is already an over used area. From what I saw walking in, most of the cars were not displaying their park or had not purchased one (the fee station is a self service kiosk).

Crater lake is close to 8 miles from Monarch Lake TH
I believe so. I've seen paddle boards on the lake. Mid week would be best!
