Love this place. Took grandkids they had wonderful time. Highly recommended.

I was a little disappointed because there was only 1 artist. I thought it would be more like Washington County Art museum. My fault for not researching it more. However, I was able to visit other areas. So a trip for the fun of it is never a waste if you explore. However, lots of potential.

For an organization that claims to represent the entire county, the Allegany Arts Council seems very Cumberland-centric. It's no wonder local support for this organization has dwindled over the past decade! Very disappointed.

Great source for local creativity and they love showcasing local artists as well as a wider variety. All types of art welcome it seems. They recently hosted a mini showcase of art from a local organization that provides support services to folks with unique developmental, physical, and rehabilitation needs. Glad to have them in my town.

The Allegany Arts Council's galleries display a variety of exhibitions. Our annual member show invites any Arts Council member to show a piece of their work, for example, and our holiday market includes items made by a variety of artists and artisans from our region. Other exhibitions, like our watercolor show, display the work of a single local art group--in this case the Western Maryland Watercolor Society. We also have national, juried exhibitions such as our Will's Creek Exhibition of Fine art and our Annual Allegany National Photography Competition & Exhibition. For those, artists enter their work for consideration and a professional juror who is an expert in the field selects which pieces will be part of the exhibition. Finally, some shows feature a single artist or small group of artists. For those shows, artists submit an application for consideration which is reviewed by an exhibition committee that meets quarterly. That committee chooses which artists will be offered a show.
We don't have painting classes at this time. We do have a free program for 2021 called "Young at Art" for adults 55 + years young. It's a quarterly program, so two have already taken place. The first was a free watercolor lesson, and the second was a talk with a local author. The last two are still in the planning stage. If you would like to receive information on these and any other art programs we may have in the future, please contact us at 301-777-2787 to have your email address added to our ArtsFlash newsletter.
