I will forever be grateful to Dr. Yang for how he cared for my bearded dragon, Burt, while Burt was in his care. I wish all vets/ doctors had his knowledge, compassion, empathy, and extreme love for exotic animals. My bearded dragon swallowed glass and I took him to Metropolitan Vet in Copley, and they transferred him to Barberton. Dr. Yang oversaw his care for three days, calling me every day with updates. The staff allowed me to visit Burt every day and stay for about an hour. Dr. Yang showed me X-rays and test results and explained everything to me, even potentially bad outcomes, but in a reassuring and calm manner that eased some of my anxiety. When Burt aspirated on food and had to go back to see how we could prevent pneumonia, Dr. Yang’s staff showed me how to give Burt shots and how to force feed him properly to prevent further aspiration. He showed me absolutely everything I could do for Burt, and he told me where I could buy things to help that were cheaper than what his office had. Even when I brought Burt in after he aspirated, and I was in tears because of the situation, his words were reassuring and his genuine concern for Burt helped put me at ease. One of the things that I appreciated so much about him was his explanations of how he came to certain conclusions; he kept saying that some tests were unavailable for bearded dragons because science is still catching up, but in other species, certain results suggest this, that, etc. That level of humility, and also his respect towards me in understanding his critical thinking just made me like him as a human being. Burt made a full recovery from both ailments, and Dr. Yang suggested some things I could do going forward to address underlying problems I was unaware of. Burt is a senior, and with anticipated health problems he’ll have as he gets older, I feel so lucky to have such an outstanding doctor so close.

My daughter's chinchilla was attacked by her other chinchilla in late December. She lives in Columbus and had taken it to an emergency vet there initially. The day after, she brought the chinchilla here (where she is from) and within a day the chinchilla started bleeding from the bite wound. We tried to call the Barberton Vet clinic where my daughter would take her chinnies before she moved and their phones were down and no one could be reached even though I found out later they were in the office all along (this phone issue went on for days). Because of this she had to take the chinchilla to the emergency vet (Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital) which is their affiliate costing more than it would have if their phones were working. The chinchilla was then "transported" back to their regular facility where they cared for it for a few days. We were told that they would keep him there and care for him to see if they could get him to drink and eat. Days went by and the vet seemed hopeful. At one point they called around noon and said they would have no one in their clinic to care for him overnight so the only choice was to transport him back to the emergency vet (yet another transportation fee and emergency care). I asked if it was worth doing this or if he was not going to make it because we would make the decision to have him put to sleep. I was told it was worth it because they started a different drug that day around noon and they wanted to see how that helped. To my understanding Chinnie was transported around 4 pm back to emergency vet. By 6:30 pm we were contacted by a vet at the emergency clinic to advise us that the chinchilla was in such "bad shape that he was not going to make it through the night". We were livid and heartbroken that this poor little guy had, in our opinion, been kept alive just to drive up the medical cost between both Barberton Veterinary Clinic and their affiliate Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital (emergency vet). At least the vet at Metro was honest with us when she had evaluated him and delivered the bad news. We drove there where my daughter could say her goodbyes to her beloved chinchilla. He looked horrible as you will see in the picture attached. The sheer fact he was kept alive in this shape was devastating to us. When we left, my daughter was so distraught she went to the car and I paid the bill. They looked up our account, gave me the total and said that was the full amount due. Within a week I was contacted by Barberton Vet Clinic to inform me that we still owed $228!!!! I expressed my anger at what had transpired and that it was INSULTING that they would try to charge us another $228 considering being misled by their medical staff AND being told by Metro who is their affiliate that our bill was paid in full. I have since been turned into collections adding insult to injury. I suppose this review is my only recourse to tell our story so that others are informed about the care our pet received and the treatment we are now experiencing. I will also look into a BBB complaint. Shame on you Barberton Vet Clinic. We will never use your services in the future and will make sure everyone we know now knows how you operate. I have perfect credit and always pay my bills but I will let this bill remain unpaid because you will never see another dime from either of us even if it hurts my credit!

I cannot recommend this practice enough. I've been coming to this practice for a long time and they have always been courteous, professional, and been open and honest with me. I really like all of the doctors and staff here. It's vary hard to find reptile-savvy vets, and in the past my pets have suffered by being given incorrect medical treatment from other vet clinics that really didn't have the knowledge to be treating them. I recommend this clinic to anyone I know that has reptiles, birds, amphibians, or other exotic pets. I trust everyone here fully and know they have the experience and knowledge to do what is best for my pets. Their costs are extremely reasonable, I've left with most visits being under $100 or under a few hundred for more serious issues. The staff was very compassionate and kind when I had to put down my bearded dragon. It really helped to alleviate some of the anxiety and pain of that experience. I've had to put pets down at other clinics and it was a terrible experience. They've always been able to schedule me for appointments or follow-ups within a reasonable time frame, which is wonderful, because with previous clinics it could sometimes take weeks to get one or my reptiles seen. I really can't say enough good things about this clinic. Coming here, I no longer dread taking my pets to the vet!

Dr.Terahay is absolutely wonderful! She has seen our dogs over many years now ...our Cocker spaniel,Toby from birth to his death at 14 yrs.old and now our beagle,Trish. She is not only very knowledgeable but her commitment and compassion towards our animals she sees brings us confidence in her abilities and comforts us knowing our fur babies could not have better care in her capable hands, and caring ways.

I know they treat birds, and I believe they do. They were the only exotic place I found willing to do surgery on a turtle, so hopefully they can help your flying friend.
