I have called CareFirst BlueCross trying to get them to send me my permanent insurance cards 6 times!!! I have two little kids who are constantly at the doctors. One is autistic. And I have to sit there and print paper copies or email them from my phone. And they swear they’ve sent them 4 times. Then I finally got a manager who said she would look into it and call me back. No return call and I have called her direct dial 4 times with no answer and no return call. This type of customer service is INEXCUSABLE. All I need is my ID cards!! On top of it all - they have no call back service so I have to wait on hold 35 minutes every time. As a working mom, I don’t have time for any of this type of poor customer service. Help humanity out and be a better insurance provider CareFirst.

I was having trouble accessing my benefits online, and couldn't get through to anyone on the main BCBS Customer Service line. I decided to call the local office because I didn't know what else to do. I spoke with Janet and she was amazing! She eased my worry and was extremely helpful. She also made sure she got the right representative on the phone before disconnecting with me!

This company embodies everything that is terrible about healthcare in this country. They try to claim all sorts of coverage, but their plans cover nothing useful. It's so absurd that they refuse to cover an office visit if the office is in the wrong type of building. Their customer service ended the call (hung up) without ever answering any questions. Since I was livid at that point, I asked a much more patient person to call on my behalf, and their call was quite similar. This is a company that cares only about gathering premiums and doing everything possible to never actually pay out any claims. The customer service is equally terrible, and they seem to enjoy being terrible. This is absolutely the worst insurance provider I have ever been forced to deal with and my employment will be changing because of this insurance "provider." Update ... CareFirst was nice enough to send me forms that "must be filled back and returned within 30 days." They sent this in a letter that provided no return mailing address. Since the website was listed as an alternative, I tried that route. Despite many red flags that scream exceptional insecurity, I pursued that avenue until I got hit with, "To finish your registration, please call Technical Support." Even better, I also got my first EoB and they're planning to cover less than 2.7% of an oncology checkup bill ($15k), after having met my deductible. This provider truly is bottom of the barrel.

customer service waiting is awful

Hi Alan. This information can be found on the home page in your My Account portal. Once you log in, you will see your plan summary — there it will list your effective date for the current plan year. Your plan end date would then be exactly one year from the effective date.
Hi Girija. Our Medicare supplemental plans members can keep their plans anywhere in the US because Medicare is covered all over the United States.
Hi Suzanne! Yakina is correct. If you have an HMO policy you'll want to use Labcorp for any blood work, but if you have BlueChoice Advantage and are outside of the CareFirst service area (MD, DC and Northern VA), then you can feel free to use any PPO lab. As always feel free to call the number on back of your ID card if you need any additional clarification.
This forum is crowd-sourced. Most businesses don't monitor at all, and those who do usually only monitor weekly.
Since the COVID outbreak, I believe all of the regional offices are closed. Call the number on the back of your card to get definitive answers. PER THE NOTE ON THEIR FRONT DOOR: you can make payments: a) online at their website; b) at Wal-Mart; or c) call the number on your card.
