Handley library is a wonderful place to visit. Beautiful architecture, nice people. Any subject you care to explore is there. I was/am a volunteer genealogist and family researcher in the archive department. If your looking for your roots in this area , chances are you'll find it here.

Beautiful Historic building. Nice environment. Helpful people. Limited On street metered parking. There are public parking garages within short walk which is better option so you don't have to watch the time.

The libraries themselves are nice, but the system they use is antiquated. Charging late fees and fines is not how most library systems operate today. Fines actually discourage patrons to return books or use library services. Charging late fees and fines impact low income residents the most. Why not do what most library systems have started and instead of charging fees, do a canned food donation drive a few times a year in exchange for overdue fines/fees? Something to help the community, not hinder it. Also, the staff is hit or miss. Some staff members may have been there for a long time, but a refresher in friendly customer service is needed. This could be a great library system with some improvements.

Fabulous and beautiful building, inside and out. Make sure to climb the stairs to fully appreciate the beauty of the dome.

Parking is available on the street. The closest street parking requires payment at a parking meter during the day. A block or two away and you can possibly find free street parking.

From the library website: ” The Handley Trustees hired architects J. Stewart Barney and Henry Otis Chapman of New York who designed the building in Beaux-Arts style. The Handley Library opened in 1913 at a cost of $149,198 for the building and furnishings.
