A great place to visit anytime of the year. There is plenty of parking but does get extremely busy on the weekends in the summertime. There is an area to launch kayaks, great fishing both above and below the dam, and numerous trails that take you to ruins, caves, or along the Patapsco River.

Couldn't take the trail. Very limited parking! Edit: went early during the week to snag a spot. Didn't go hiking, but took the kayaks out. Got about a mile before being forced to turn around due to low water level.

You can swim on other side of damn. Sometimes they have rope swings that swing into the water. Can swim anywhere along the river just not within 300 feet of waterfall.
Brian's comment is correct...if you are lucky enough to get one of the few parking spots at the bottom of the hill. If he doesn't get one, he has to park about half a mile up the road. The walk is on the road down to the dam. It is paved, but steep. Bad knees or hips will be aggravated before he gets to the dam. There is limited parking right next to the dam. And above the dam. You could drop him off, then if parking is not available, go back up the road and park.
Go down stream. Helgramites or crawdads immitations.
