As an ex installer for Xfinity yes you are capable of buying your own compatible equipment and having them add the equipment to you account. Use caution though to make sure the box is not a box that has Xfinity or comcast stamped onto it and that it has all serial numbers in tact. Than you will need to connect the box and call customer service to have them add the equipment into there system so that it is registered as an authorized piece of equipment and it may take some time because they will need most if not all of the different serial numbers for the box and it will need to have the firmware updated to be compatible with Xfinity services.

On the remote press settings .... General.... scroll down to daily update time and change it
