I had the unfortunate pleasure of being a patient of Dr. Cole's while being treated for mental health. I've never met a more smug, condescending, arrogant doctor who was not only uninterested in actually helping me but actually was ignorant of the current medical research. Dr. Cole does not listen to anything you have to say and is only looking for certain key words that he can latch on to to then use as the reason for your illness. He's beyond lazy. He doesn't want to evaluate you. He doesn't look at test results. He doesn't look at your past medical history and doesn't believe that current, scientifically, peer reviewed medical conditions actually exist. What kind of doctor can evaluate you without getting a proper medical history?? What doctor just looks for the easy diagnosis? A lazy doctor who doesn't care about his patients. That's who. The nursing staff and nursing assistants were amazing though. If you or your loved one needs psychiatric care, avoid Dr. Cole.

From my experience. Do not come to UT psychiatric clinic. My consults consist of this "how you feel? Ok see you in 3 months"....Didn't listen to a word I said, or didn't care. Either way. Seek elsewhere.

If you seek psychiatric help from this clinic, be prepared for judgment, invalidation, condescension, arrogance and dismissive attitudes. If you're already in a stressed/traumatized state, don't expect anything less than your state of mind to worsen if you seek help here. The UT Southwestern medical system overall is second to none but the mental health division leaves a lot to be desired.

The UTSW health system is world class! I have been very happy with my care and service. However, when it come to mental health it is sub par. The psych office is disorganized and the staff ate rude abd surly. The providers are arrogant and dismissive of underlying medical issues. They seem to he mote intersted in parking themselves on the back than actually listening. Eric Shellhorn is the worst!
