I bought a custom, all-aluminum exterior spiral staircase to connect my back door to the patio, one story below. The weight and quality of the stairs -- pole, treads, balusters, handrail -- is impressive; heavy-gauge aluminum, precision cuts and welds, all fitted beautifully. The kit includes a huge amount of hardware and a 75 page manual with inserts. The whole job was shipped in one giant box, about 400 lbs, to my driveway. Note, this is not a DIY installation. I hired an experienced builder to build a landing, assemble the staircase, and connect it to my house. One critical assembly part was left out of the package, but The Iron Shop remedied that with an overnight delivery. The production team at Iron Shop has been timely, responsive, and easy to work with. I am happy, overall, with the staircase -- it's high quality and it meets my needs.

I bought a powder coated spiral staircase 6 years ago for my ocean front home. I have had to replace and maintain so many things due to the salt air, such as most of my outside lights which all corroded, even though they were rated for marine environment, hinges, and locks. I have had to repaint the front of the house, doors, the garage door, but NOT the spiral staircase. If I cleaned it, it would still look brand new. Very high quality product. I highly recommend. I also have a spiral staircase at my non-beach home. I chose the standard paint finish and have to re-spray paint it every 3-4 years. Still great. Everyone near me (in the city) has the same issue with their metal balconies and stairs. I do recommend you pay more and get the powder coat finish though, I would if I could do it again.

They used to have professional sales people and a showroom. Unfortunately the owner is the type of a guy that drives good employees out, and now there is nothing left. Most sales folks aren't trained or not being allowed to do their job well due to micromanagement. The production is always behind the schedule due to the same reasons. Get your staircase elsewhere.
