I called several companies to get an estimate on how much my repair would cost. Metro could come out on this day, being a Sunday and it would not be an extra service charge like a couple of other companies. Also no service call charge if they actually did the repair. Omar came at the time he said and it was raining too!! He told my husband all that he could and would do to fix the springs and make adjustments to the door (that should have been done when it was installed in the first place by another company)!! We are very pleased with the work that was done and the professionalism we received! We had used another guy who came in Dec., for a different repair and then here it is September! And a holiday weekend too! Thanks again Metro (Omar)

If you’re looking for a new garage door opener, the number of choices out there can be overwhelming. LiftMaster is one of the most obvious choices, and we’ve got a handful of models for you to explore here today. We’ve also got some general pointers to help make finding the best garage door opener for your needs easier.
The spring may be broken if the door doesn’t open all the way or at all, or it is making very loud noises. This is potentially dangerous and you should contact a professional to replace the springs.
This depends on a few different factors. If it is a minor dent, it is possible to repair the damage verses replacing the panels or the entire door. If there is minor damage to the garage door, it may be possible to pop out the dents and repair the damage. It is important to address the issue as soon as you can to avoid having to replace the entire door down the road. It may be that you have to replace panels of the door instead of the entire door. However, if the door is old and out of date, it may be impossible to find a panel match. If the door is completely damaged or out of date, you will need to purchase a new door to replace it. A technician will be able to inspect the door and let you know if a door needs to be replaced and what options are out there or if they will be able to repair it.
Regular maintenance to your garage door system will help keep your garage opening and closing smoothly without issues. It is recommended to get it tuned up annually to extend its life cycle. A technician will do a check up on all the major components (cables, springs, opener, tracks, etc) and lube all the necessary parts. Having a tune up performed can prevent a more expensive fix down the road from parts breaking from neglect. A garage door has a life cycle of 10,000 opening and closing of the door. Without proper monitoring, you may find yourself with a broken cable or spring which is more costly than scheduling to have routine maintenance performed.

The first thing we check is the safety sensors. located at the bottom of the door, safety sensors are responsible for the reverse mechanism making sure the door will go back up in case it senses motion in its way. The second thing we check when we work on the garage door is the tension provided by the springs above the door connected with the cables to the bottom bracket of the garage door, Springs must be appropriately adjusted otherwise the door will not be balanced and can get off-track very easily and quickly. The garage door cables must be in good condition without any appearance of tear and wear.

Springs, rollers and hinges can squeak and be noisy. This is caused by normal use and does not necessarily indicate a problem. Before calling a professional service technician, use a spray-on lubricant (recommended specifically for garage doors). If the noise persists, call a professional garage door installer to access your garage door.
A remote that fails to operate the door could be caused by several issues. The most common is that your garage door remote may need the batteries replaced. The safety photo eyes on your garage door opener may be out of alignment. Or your spring(s) may be broken.
Important note: door springs always need to be replaced as a set! While the purpose may not be so obvious to the novice, it does make sense. Once one spring is broken the other one is probably not far behind especially considering how springs weaken with continued use. Combining a new spring with an older one will likely cause an imbalance in your door's operation. If you own 2 separate garage doors and only one spring has broken, it's strongly recommended to replace the springs on each door if their springs are around the same age.
The most important reasons to purchase an insulated door are: Insulation improves a door's durability against denting making it a good, light weight substitute for tough, heavier weight, wooden doors. Energy efficiency is also an important consideration if there are living areas near or around the garage that require temperature regulation.
The simple answer is no. Fixing a garage door spring yourself is dangerous, you should hire a garage door repair specialist to fix your garage door.
Torsion springs are a better choice because they balance the weight of the door better than extension springs for smoother operation and safety.
A Carriage House door is a type of garage door that replicates the look of doors found on carriage houses in the early 19th and 20th Centuries.
Unless you have experience in changing a garage door spring, you should have them changed by a qualified garage door mechanic.
There are a number of reasons your garage door is making noise, but the most common is age and your garage doors chains, pulleys, springs and other moving parts may also need a garage door tune-up. Garage door parts become loose and they require to be lubricated. Your system should be inspected from time to time.
Yes
Installing a new garage door yourself may seem like a good idea at first. However, there are some things to consider before doing so. For example, it takes experience and skill to properly align and secure the parts together. Also, installing a garage door yourself could cause damage to your property. In addition, you might not know what kind of garage door you need until after youve installed it. So, unless you have previous experience, we recommend hiring a professional to install a new garage door.
Cleaning your garage door regularly will help prevent rust and keep dust out of the garage. To clean your garage door, first remove the old paint. Then wash off the surface with soap and water. Use a soft brush and dry thoroughly with a towel. Finally, apply a coat of oil to protect against corrosion.
Overhead garage doors are very popular because they provide great protection from the elements. The advantage of this style of garage door is that it doesnt require any extra space to be opened. It just hangs there like a big piece of fabric above your car. When you need to enter the garage, simply lift up the door and step inside.
Most garage door openers use a remote control or keypad. If youre looking for an easy way to get inside your house, then a remote is probably best. You can also program it so that when you press a button on the remote, the garage door opens automatically. This makes opening and closing the garage door much easier than having to push the button every time you want to go inside.
Garage doors come in many different styles and materials, but they all have one thing in common: They open and close to allow you access into your home. There are three main categories of garage doors: roll-up, sectional, and single panel.
Whether or not you need a lock on the garage door depends on the type of garage door opener you have installed. A lock is not necessary if you have an electric garage door opener, as it would be nearly impossible for a criminal to manually open the door. Some older openers, though, still allow the door to be lifted from the outside. If you have this kind of opener, then a lock should be installed to help you maintain garage door security.
As your garage door gets older, sections of it can begin to sag or bend, making it difficult to close the door. There are also many pieces of equipment on the door that can degrade over time. When these devices are compromised, additional stress is placed on your door, which causes breakdowns to occur. You should consider replacing a garage door if it becomes difficult to close or begins to malfunction.
There are many different garage door styles, and you should choose a type that blends with the design of your home. You will also need to make several other aesthetic decisions, such as selecting the door’s color and the appropriate type of windows. Insulation is another important deciding factor. A poorly insulated door can contribute to increased energy costs, so you should always select a garage door that has a high level of energy efficiency. Finally, you must consider garage door safety before making a purchase. The door must be able to protect your home and prevent user injury, so it should be outfitted with all of the necessary protective equipment.
While it can be alarming if your garage door suddenly stops working, this often means that the problem is relatively easy to repair. Other problems, such as a door that seems too heavy when you try to lift it, may indicate that there is not enough tension in the mechanism – which is also usually a simple fix. In the case of physical damage or wear, garage door repair may be as simple as replacing a single panel. Garage door replacement may be necessary when a door is rusted, heavily scratched, cracked, or warped. Heavy damage may compromise the opener, track, springs, or other parts of the mechanism. It is not always obvious when a door is stressed enough to pose a safety hazard. A professional garage door inspection can help assess whether the door is damaged or worn enough that it requires replacement.
The Internet has a lot of advice about what to do if your garage door gets stuck, but much of it involves actions that could damage to the door or another part of the garage. Your best bet is to contact the company that installed the door, or to call another reputable garage door repair company that does service and repair for garage doors. Often a good company will offer around-the-clock emergency help.
The price of replacing or installing a door to your garage involves many factors and not just the price of the door. The style, quality, and type of decorative and functional features dramatically affect the prices of the door, its opener system and installation. The average price tag runs $1,020, according to Homeadvisor.com
There are two kinds of springs used for garage door systems. One is the torsion spring while the other is the extension spring. It will be easy to identify the type of springs your garage door utilizes just by counting them.

The springs on a garage are there to counteract the force of gravity on the door, making it easier for it to open and close. There are many types of garage doors that are different sizes and weights. Therefore, there are also many types of springs that are used on certain types of doors. It’s difficult to give an exact price on what the cost will be to replace the spring (or springs) until a technician is able to inspect the kind of spring you need for your particular door to replace it. A technician will be able to tell you exactly what the cost will be including the labor to install it once they determine what type you need.
There are a variety of reasons why your garage door may not be operating as it should be. A professional technician will be able to diagnose what may be the issue, and provide you with an estimate on the cost to repair it. Broken cables, broken springs, or a malfunctioning opener all could be culprits of your garage door not opening properly. It can also be refusing to open if the door got off the tracks. You may be able to identify the issue yourself by visually checking these items to see if they appear damaged. If your garage door isn’t closing, the likely reason is that the sensors on the door being interrupted. They are in place to prevent an accident happening if something were in the way as the door closes. If the eye of the sensor is not working or the infrared beam is being interrupted somehow, that could be causing the door to keep from closing.
In many cases a replacement section is an option depending on whether it is still in production or the rest of the door is in good enough shape to warrant replacing the section. Sometimes the better economic solution is to replace the complete door.
First check to see if you have a wall console ( pushbutton ) that has a vacation switch or lock button. Most times your lighted pushbutton will be blinking if that function has been activated. Push and hold the vacation or lock button for approximately five seconds and release. If that was the problem the transmitter should then work. If still not working, try a new battery. Be careful to not disturb the coding switches if present. If still malfunctioning you may check to see if coding switches on transmitter match the switches on the power unit hanging from the ceiling.
Most times a garage door won't open because a counterbalance mechanism isn't functioning such as a broken extension or torsion spring. If an electric opener is present and no noise is noted when activated, try disconnecting the opener by pulling the emergency release and manually lifting the door. If the door moves the problem most likely is the opener. Make sure there is power to the outlet supplying the opener and if present then a service call by a trained professional is warranted. If there is a problem with the counterbalance mechanism, repair should be made by a qualified door mechanic.
