I had been shopping for a heavy trailer. Heaven knows there are a lot of trailer dealerships in Waco. I had a pretty good idea of my requirements for the trailer, but am not an expert in them to be clear. Two main reasons for giving it a low rating: customer service (or lack of it), and price. Maybe I was just unlucky and got someone on a bad day, but the fellow who I found in the office didn’t seem overly excited to see me. He took me to trailers fitting my requirements (mostly, they were longer than I wanted), gave me a printed quote, and that was that. And then there was the price. Make sure you ask for the “Out the Door” price, because between the 5-10 (No joke) additions on the invoice, the sticker price goes up not just 6.25% (taxes) but several other costs were added. I had called around, and went there first because they offered what i needed for a good price. But there’s a secret, and I was frustrated that I didn’t have a part of this experience there. Remember the fellow who helped me? He never offered to get me exactly what I needed. He seemed fixed on selling something today/already on the lot. When I say that they carried “Salvation Trailers” (a brand), I inquire about the trailers but they weren’t closer than what I’d been shown. Salvation Trailers was my next stop. They showed me what they had, asked what I needed, took my specifications, and built me a custom trailer for 20% LESS that the sticker price at Phils. Yes, Phil’s sticker price, with the additional $500-$1000 for Out The Door, Salvation built me the trailer I needed and wanted fir 20% less than the sticker price (probably closer to 25% off the Out the Door price.) Phil’s, you gotta do more to capture my business. If you had offered (or asked even) to have a trailer built for me, I probably wouldn’t have driven to the manufacturers directly.
