This place is wonderful. A little trash. But the trees are great. The river cool. A great place to go for the day and for camping. Has a pit toilet. I have seen up to 15 foot trailers go there and school busses. Great for dogs. Please pick up after yourselves. Everyone should be able to enjoy it's pristine beauty. Oh and skunks live here.

Free camping with stunning views in Gila National Forest! 14 day limit. A few small bathrooms & bear proof trash cans. No numbered sites, but there are firerings. Many tucked away areas for tents/smaller rigs, and a few loops with space for larger rigs. Cool, clear, & clean river water access (mostly shallow, rocky bottom) within walking distance from all sites. Mostly shaded. Rocky road further in but sites closer to entrance are easily accessible. End site is group area with sandy beach and walking trails. Nice hike through the gate near entrance. During the week it was silent and soo peaceful. The dogs loved splashing in the water as we waded down the river exploring. Weekends got busy but everyone seemed nice and we felt safe. Saw a few people fishing but we didn't see any fish. Some people floated the river on tubes. Great spot for nature watching! We saw javelinas, deer, colorful birds, a horned lizard, & had cattle crossing through our campsite. The glow of sunset on the surrounding mountains is stunning!

Absolutely beautiful place. And a welcome respite from the heat on a hot day! Bring your suits, towels, and food, and you're set for the day!

Just be cautious and aware that the box is flash floods territory I wouldn't recommend going during rain season πoverall fun place to take the family and the dogs π

When I was there around June 26th, campfires were not allowed but for pits were.
No there isn't!
Yes !!
Road in is a little steep and gravel, but we took it slow and got our 26' all the way to the end. If you have a capable vehicle, go for it!
