My a/c has been running constantly and it is very warm in the house. If I turn off the unit and restart, will it fix the problem?

Compressors do have a breaker that resets automatically. You've got nothing to lose by during it off for a time. The evaporator may be frozen over, too. Shut it off for an hour or so, see what happens.
