From the project developers to the construction superintendants, the team at Aurora has been very effective to work with, and has provided constant communication throughout the entire process. They were able to address several issues that arose throughout each process, and set the right expectations from day 1 in terms of timelines and delivery dates. I would certainly recommend them to anyone looking to install PV solar projects on their commercial properties.

Aurora installed a 17 kw system on our roof during the summer of 2016. I started working with Aurora in the Spring of 2016. I was considering another company as well, so there were several months of questions and answers and updated proposals. I decided to use Aurora since I like the SunPower modules, the fact that Aurora was a local company that had been installing solar panels for many years, plus their excellent reviews. Aurora provided excellent communication during the entire installation phase (that took a little longer than expected, due to the excessive heat). I would like to provide extra thanks to Dustin who worked long, hot hours to make sure everything was done correctly. The only issue was the final system commissioning by SunPower, which should have been completed soon after installation but took several weeks. Aurora continued to query SunPower until the commissioning was finally completed.

Dear Fariborz, We had trouble figuring out how to put our comments on Google Plus, so we are sending you our comments (see below) so you can place them yourself. Your fans, Ron and Nancy "We are writing to praise Aurora Energy Inc. to the skies! In 2007, Aurora installed 24 solar panels on our roof. Aurora was knowledgeable, efficient, thorough — they did an excellent job. Since the panels were installed 8 years ago, we have paid only the fee for the connection to the grid and the electric company has paid us for the excess electricity that has been returned to the grid each year. We recently had a problem and the President of Aurora, Fairborz Mahjouri, was immediately on the case. He corralled all the resources and men necessary and together they solved the problem. We are constantly recommending Aurora to anyone we meet who is interested in installing solar panels. They are a great company!" Ron and Nancy Goor

We ordered a system in early April, had it installed early June. In July BGE finally finished all of their approvals and installed the net meter. Aurora was very easy to work with throughout and informative about all of the current incentives (30% Federal Tax credit, $1000 Maryland grant, SREC's). They employ their own installers and did a great job, very professional. My system has worked great so far. My July and August electric bills were negative, of course I know in the winter I will still have a big bill, but 8 months out of the year I should be break even or better.

Questions & Answers

If I have a small roof, should I still consider solar installation?

Meagan Braganca | Oct 26, 2021

Even if a PV system only offsets a small percentage of building usage the return on investment can be very high. Overall, there are three primary revenue streams from solar: 1- Offsetting existing electricity costs, 2- Solar Renewable Energy Credits or SRECs, 3- Tax Benefits. Even if a company can only offset say 10% of their total electrical usage the combination of these three revenue streams can still add up to a very profitable investment. Therefore, instead of considering solar as a way to eliminate all utility bills (although given larger roof spaces, this is often the case) it useful to consider solar installation in terms of a capital expenditure that returns a great profit for the system owner.

What are financing options for solar?

Meagan Braganca | Oct 26, 2021

There are several attractive options on solar project financing, the most common being a Power Purchase Agreement or PPA. In this arrangement a building owner agrees to allow a third-party financial institution to build and then own a solar array on their property. They then sign a contract with this financial institution to buy all of the electricity produced by the solar installation at a discount to their existing utility bills. The building owner gets a solar installation completed on their property for no-upfront costs and gets to enjoy immediate utility bill savings from the system. A second option is to purchase, where building owners can choose to pay for the construction costs of the installation themselves (or take a loan) and reap all of the financial benefits that comes with solar installation like utility savings, Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs), state & local incentives, and tax benefits.

Will a solar installation damage my roof?

Meagan Braganca | Oct 26, 2021
Aurora Energy, Inc | Oct 26, 2021

Generally speaking, the chances that a solar installation – performed by a qualified installer – will cause roof damage, is extremely small. Each roof is unique and there are many different types of solar racking that we use to secure a solar installation: ballast & mechanical attachment. The method used depends on the roof's characteristics and the height of the structure. Lower, flat roofs can utilize the ballasted racking system while pitched or higher rooftops typically need a footing attachment with minimum roof penetration. Keep in mind, though, that solar attachments are done like any other rooftop mechanical attachment for equipment like HVAC or piping. Attachments are flashed and sealed in accordance with the roofing manufacturers’ best practices.

I have some roof damage, contractor is ready to repair roof. But I can't get Solar City/Tesla to remove the panels (its been 3 months). Can your company temporary remove and then re-install?
