In 1815, Springboro was founded as a Quaker Community by Jonathan Wright of Pennsylvania. Initially set to be named “Wrightstown” to honor the founder, Wright declined the name and proposed “Springborough”. The official name came in reference to the numerous underground springs found in the area. The community was a stop on the Underground Railroad, providing more safe houses for runaway slaves than any other in Ohio. By 1840, a total of 417 residents called Springboro homes and population continued to steadily grow toward the turn of the 20th century.
