I’ve always been aware of my prominent ears but my family couldn’t afford the surgery as a child even though I was made fun of by a few classmates. So when my children were born I decided I would never make them live through that. Its not easy deciding to have your child undergo cosmetic surgery but, having lived through this, I never saw it as cosmetic. When my 8 year old daughter asked about her ears and that immediately made me schedule an appointment with Dr. Placik. He was reassuring and I felt comforted knowing the surgery would be done at the hospital. She had surgery about 3 months ago and can’t stop looking in the mirror. I strongly believe in personality and try to teach lessons about self-worth but her self-confidence has sky rocketed. She wears her hair back and the scars can’t even be seen unless you really look for them (still slightly red but I’m told that will go down). She never comments on her ears any more and is less shy. Even though others may disagree, I feel like I made the right decision in having her undergo the surgery and choosing Dr. Placik.
