a real hole in the wall on the off-beat path of chicago’s chinatown serving tasty, authentic chinese food with among the most affordable prices i’ve seen in chinatown. pretty quiet ambience at lunchtime with a mix of large families and smaller groups. the dishes are ideal for family style, which is what we had with my group of 6, but i would’ve loved to have a whole bowl of their 5 spices beef noodle soup all to myself as well! we ordered the following dishes (** = highly recommend): - **5 spices beef shank noodle soup with wide rice noodles: this was so excellent- the beef was cooked to perfection- so so tender and flavorful, and the broth was fresh and soul-replenishing. - **stir-fried pepper steak: steak was incredibly seasoned and stir-fried, pairing perfectly with the vegetables it came with. - **cumin lamb xinjiang style: the lamb was bold in flavor, the cumin adding a wonderfully strong kick. it was also paired well with the vegetables it came with, complementing and augmenting the flavor of each other. - **stir-fried string beans: a classic- you can never go wrong with this dish at any good chinese restaurant. it was stir-fried and seasoned perfectly. - fish stomach and chives with xo sauce: fish stomach wasn’t really my vibe, but i still enjoyed the light and fresh flavors of the dish. lots of veggies in here too, which was excellent. - singapore rice noodles: was slightly soggy, but overall the flavors were on point and the meat options in the dish were flavorful and added a great touch to the already well-flavored noodles. every dish offered large, hearty portions and did not hold back on the veggies, which were crisp and refreshing. the family who owns this restaurant was also super sweet and provided excellent, attentive service! if you’re looking to explore other parts of chinatown outside of the tourist-heavy central square, this place should be the first stop on your list: you won’t be disappointed by the authentic, flavorful home-style (and not to mention, MUCH more affordable) chinese food— highly recommend this place! our group of 6 filled ourselves with so so so much food and only spent around $15 each!

Food was phenomenal. First time there based off reviews , figured why not try it out. Ambiance in the restaurant was ok, very plain but the food makes up for it and is phenomenal. Definitely worth a try!

My son and I stumbled on this place when the hotpot restaurant we tried to get into was too full. I am seriously glad we had to go somewhere else and found this. The menu was simple and the food was immaculate and delicious. I would recommend the lemongrass chicken. The customer service there was also top notch. A great out-of-the-way place to stop in and eat.
