Very disappointed in the business practices and scamming scheme that is NH Ross. In December of 2018, oil heat was converted to gas in my home through NH Ross. Fast forward to under four years later…on October 3, 2022, I noticed that my heating system was no longer working properly. I was in contact with NH Ross the next day, and explained to them the situation. They looked up my file, and said that I was eligible for repairs under their warranty. On October 5 in the late afternoon, a technician came to the house and saw that the Taco 2-Zone Switching Relay had “burned out”. I was then informed that the component was NOT under warranty. I had the technician call the offices at NH Ross to explain to me why I was told one thing over the phone and a second thing in person, to which they said that certain components only had a 2-year warranty. I was naturally upset, as I would have gone with another company who could have done their own evaluation for free (NH Ross does not do “free estimates”, so it now cost me for them to look at the part). They then quoted me an absurd amount of money…almost $1,400 that included the part and 2.5 hours of labor. I needed to pay half now and the other half later. The technician even said to me that he would have been upset too, based off of the entire situation. I was then told that they would call me as soon as they can for installation. The first time they called (on October 6), they wanted to come immediately, but since I was at work, this was not possible. I said that they could come over on October 7 in the afternoon, after 3 PM. It was confirmed earlier that day that I was the “next stop”. At around 4 PM, I received a call saying that the job was cancelled, and the next available day that they could come over was on October 11 after 2 PM. On October 11, the same technician came over at 4:30 PM…and was completed with the job at 5:15 PM. I asked them to call back the company, given the severe inconveniences I already incurred, to only be charged for ONE hour of labor instead of the 2.5 that was quoted for me. Conveniently, the offices were closed (even though their business hours are stated as closing at 7 PM, and I had reached out to them around the same time on October 5). I asked him again what was wrong with the piece, and he said that the equipment was inferior and that I NOW received an updated state-of-the-art Switching Relay…now with only a ONE year warranty. First off, why would a company admit to installing inferior products in my home? Secondly…. upon further research, I come to find that they installed the EXACT SAME MODEL IN MY HOME (SR502-4). And the model is being sold at Home Depot for only $177! I know this because of my internet search history the day of when the technician came the first time as well as the second time. The technician, once again, agreed with me, and continued to claim that there was nothing he can do. He suggested I pay for the service now, and NH Ross will call me first thing in the morning with a resolution. Of course, they did not call me back. What should have been a FREE job…or a job that I could have taken elsewhere for a fraction of the cost…cost way more than it should have, and I will not be recommending NH Ross to anyone in the future. I will be disputing some of the unnecessary and ridiculous overcharges because of the situation.
