The credit Union is suppose to help when nobody else will , like a community. I guess those days are gone...

This credit union has failed! My elderly mother needed assistance with a Cash App transaction. As a result, she contacted a number listed on Google as a number for Cash App. The "customer service representative" from the number listed on the Google search posed as an official Cash App rep. Once my mother determined that the hotline was suspicious, she reported it to New Jersey Law & Public Safety Credit Union. The clerk/customer service associate advised my mother to allow the transaction to post so that the credit union could determine who the fraudulent party was. Taking the advice of the bank, my mother allowed the transaction to post. She moved her money into a separate account with the credit union hoping to stop the transaction. However, once the transaction posted, my mother was hit with an overdraft fee, even though the bank was aware. Soon thereafter, the bank not only assessed the overdraft fee, when money was deposited into her account, the credit union took her funds. Today she received a letter from the credit union's attorney who stated that the credit union could not return her funds of $1190 because my mother gave this "customer service line" access. This is beyond poor business practices. You expect a credit union to be far more protective than your traditional financial institutions. Why advise a customer to allow a fraudulent transaction to post only to not protect them thereafter? This is expected from larger institutions, not a credit union. We are seeking to move forward with possible legal actions against this credit union. An advisory statement: if you're elderly or have elderly parents who bank with this institution be cautious. If they could allow this to happen to a senior, imagine what they could allow to happen to you or your parents. My heart breaks for seniors who are taken advantage of and I'm angered with institutions that don't try to protect them when they are scammed. I blame all parties involved to include Google for allowing this scam line for Cash App to exist to take advantage of unsuspecting seniors. If I could give 0 stars for the sake of protecting seniors, then I would. Unfortunately Google doesn't allow such a rating.
