I’ve hiked this several times now and always come back when I’m in the area. It’s such a fun scramble and exploration area. The rocks are amazing and full of color. There is a somewhat of a challenging part if you are afraid of heights but there is a rope to help. If I can do it, you can do it!

This is an awesome hike. It can be as long or short as you choose. We've gone for several hours and for less than an hour. Different seasons provide a different experience too. In the fall, the leaves provide an amazing contrast to the red rocks, and in the early spring, the water is flowing which makes for beautiful views and relaxing points to stop and observe. The beginning of good for all ages and gets progressively more difficult.

Enjoyable trail with a mix of sun and shade, right along the river with sounds of running water. Note: there is some clambering required about halfway up the trail where it crosses the river.

Road paved to trailhead. Nice little campground with day parking for $5, pit toilets, and a shaded day use picnic area. Beautiful, red rock formations. Red Reef trail is a short, beautiful hike. As of yesterday, there were just small pools of water that could be hiked/climbed around. We were able to stay dry.

How long is the trail

Depends on how far u hike. If u do the rope and foot holds and keep hiking to the slot canyon with the difficult rock face to get over, it's 2 miles round trip.

How early are you allowed to come to the trail?

There are plenty of boulders and steep edges with unforgiving surfaces below, and a rock to scamper around over a pit that might be nearly impassible for a dog a mile or so in. Don't think I'd go out of my way to bring my Weimaraner for a hike here, kids absolutely love it though!
