My father has resided at Brookdale West Ashley for a year. The facility is bright, clean, and sunny. Dad likes the food, and we've enjoyed a few wonderful family meals prepared by the culinary team. As other reviewers noted, we've weathered staffing shortages, and there were a few tough days. I applaud the caregivers who covered extra shifts and didn't quit. Shortages have mostly eased, thankfully, post-COVID. Staff members are patient, kind, and caring. The director and her entire team have gone the extra mile to meet the needs of our family. We appreciate the activity director in memory care who keeps the residents engaged. The staff at Brookdale will work with you to keep your loved one healthy and happy. Brookdale has been a blessing for our family, and in my opinion, it is a great option for seniors. If you choose Brookdale West Ashley or any other facility, stay involved. Work with the staff. It takes a team effort, and Brookdale is a great player to have on your side.

I feel sad and sorry that you, another family is in search of a facility and care team for your family member to call home and family. Our country lacks so much support and respect for our elder population and their families. This is the most difficult journey for myself and my family. While I believe Brookdale is not the worst, I believe it could be so much better. I have seen it better. Yes, I may have very high standards. And no I do not have limitless funds. And maybe there was not any planning by my mother to make this any easier on her or me. Yet, could there be better? Do we have to settle? I don't believe Brookdale was honest with me when I was at my most vulnerable, looking for a home for my mother. I feel somewhat betrayed and cheated. But, that is now in the past. I do understand the staffing issues/shortages/retention issues, I believe they may be the same everywhere. More staff, better pay, more incentives,....in the ideal world that could change everything. But, reality is what it is and that does not make it any easier for me, the family. The one that knows who my mother once was, knows how she deserves so much more. I will always strive and hope I can do better, do more, til there is no longer a reason to try or to hope. I hope all at Brookdale caring for the residents can say the same, maybe even just most days. Good luck in your journey. As my mother said at my last visit, "we can only do the best we can".
