My solar experience was without a doubt a great experience. My sales person Tim sat down and went over everything with me. I received constant emails informing me of where I was in the process. I received my proposed drawing of the panel placement but needed it changed because I couldn’t have any on the front of my home so they did that. On the day of installation the head of the installation crew realized I would receive better use with a few changes of panel placement in the rear. He showed me the new proposed placement which worked out fine. The installers did a great job. My sales person Tim came over to follow up with me after the install, showed me how to use the app, and has followed up with me a few times since to insure everything was working fine and to go over my electric bill to be sure I was benefiting from going solar. I would recommend Firefly Solar to anyone. Charmaine M

We had Firefly install solar on our home in May and have had a fantastic experience working with their team. The rep for our area is Tim McGann. He's professional with a personal touch. He's continues to check in with us, making sure everything is in working order and that we are getting what we expect from our solar. Also, the installers, technicians and support staff are extremely friendly and helpful.

The solar panels come with a 25-year warranty. By this time, they have paid for themselves many times over, but many people will keep them for a good deal longer than that.

How do I claim my State Tax Credit (South Carolina)

Firefly Solar & Roofing | Oct 23, 2018
Firefly Solar & Roofing | Oct 23, 2018

The South Carolina government is also incentivizing home and business owners to go green. They currently offer a 25% tax credit on the full cost of the system. How does this work? It is paid back to you, or deducted from what you owe much the same way as the federal tax credit. The only difference is how much of this credit you can claim in any one year. Unlike the federal credit, you are not able to claim the full state credit in one year (in most cases). You can claim up to 50% of the state taxes you have paid (or owe), up to a $3500 cap, in any given year. You have 10 years to claim your full 25% state tax credit. In most cases, it will take 2-4 years to claim the full credit

How to I claim my Federal tax credits?

The Federal government is incentivizing home and business owners to go green. They currently offer a 30% tax credit on the full cost of the system. How does this work? It depends on how you pay taxes. If you are on a regular salary, and your taxes get paid automatically with every pay check, at the end of the year you have have paid a certain amount in taxes. Out of the federal taxes you have paid, you will get 30% of the system cost back from the government, when you file your taxes. If you are a contractor, or self-employed, and you only pay taxes once per year, then you will deduct 30% of the system cost from what you owe the federal government. If you have paid in (or owe) at least the full amount of the credit in that year, you will get back (or deduct from what you owe) the full amount in a single year. If you have paid in (or owe) less than the credit amount, the remaining balance can roll over to the following year.

How much does it cost?

The cost of the system is determined by what size system you get, and the quality of the materials you purchase. A larger system produces more energy than smaller systems, and therefore covers larger electric bills. When determining the size of the system a home needs, there are many variables to consider when making the the best possible recommendation. For this reason, we send a trained solar consultant to your home to evaluate each individual situation before making our recommendations

How does it work at night, or rainy days?

Firefly Solar & Roofing | Oct 23, 2018
Firefly Solar & Roofing | Oct 23, 2018

Your system is designed with rainy days and night times in mind. We can calculate the energy your system will produce over the course of the year, based on average sunlight hours in your area. During the day your system will produce more energy than you are using, and that will be 'banked' with your utility, to be used at times when you are not generating enough for your needs.

How will I know if it's working?

Firefly Solar & Roofing | Oct 23, 2018

The first clue is the reduction in your electric bill! But better than that, we will provide you with free, live monitoring so you can see exactly what your system is producing at any given time of day.

Will I still have an electric bill?

Firefly Solar & Roofing | Oct 23, 2018
Firefly Solar & Roofing | Oct 23, 2018

Your solar system will be customized to suit your individual needs. For some homes, this means offsetting a smaller percentage of their electric bill, and for others it can mean saying goodbye to their entire usage charge! (Most utilities will still charge a nominal 'Basic Facilities Charge' even if you cover 100% of your usage with solar. Check with your solar consultant, or utility company to find out what this charge is.)
