It is a beautiful building which previously was a library donated by Daniel Willis James a millionaire of the Gilded Age of Madison. It was converted to a Museum focused on early trade. You learn about life of the farmer and their methods of preserving food for the winter. See bellows and tools of the blacksmith. Beautiful Cabinet making chest and various tools mounted on the wall for making a cabinet. If you are wondering how leather boots were made or how the leather was formed around wooden model forms, this exhibit was fascinating. In general a very educational few hours to learn about how things were created in the early 18th- 19th century. You will love the interior of the museum with vaulted ceilings and iron work.

Beautiful library building from 1899. Well organized small exhibit with plenty of children friendly activities. Free entry for FDU students.

Great Museum and easy to get to, also parking is close by. We went there on March 20th. We were in the lower level when a mother and her young son came in. She said he had been there before and couldn't wait to come back, but this would be her first time. Imagine our surprise when the kid asked his mother to go Home, after seeing a black couple in the Museum. They were only there for 10 minutes. 🤣. Shame on you for teaching a 5 yr old about Hate.😝

Hi Jackie! Admission to the museum is $ 5 for adults, $ 3 for students, adults 62 and older, and children. Children 6 and under and METC members are free. The maximum family rate is $ 15. We hope to see you soon!
There is an abundance of free parking on all streets in Madison. Closest parking to METC is on Kings Road or directly across Green Village Road in the shoppers parking lot. Check out our website which has a map indicating all parking options!
