Before my father passed away two weeks ago, he told me that he wanted to use the same funeral home as we used for my mother, which was Horan and McConaty. From the very first communication with them until the very last time when I picked up my fathers death certificates, everyone was thoughtful, knowledgeable and kind. The funeral Director we worked with, Ian Thompson, not only understood what our needs were, but also understood the quirkiness of our family and my father. It was so refreshing to meet with someone who was so emotionally intelligent. Everyone there made this a fairly painless experience and helped us immeasurably.

Horan & McConaty Funeral Services has officially found a way to cordially tell you to f!@# off. My mother-in-law passed on February 28, 2019 and we used their service to manage all funeral arrangements and we sat in the room they placed us in for what seemed like hours, we definitely were uncomfortable. Fast forward to today and we decided to try them again, this time with my father-in-law. The attempt to show compassion wasn't genuine and the push to make a "mighty buck" permeated the room over a real understanding that families are still grieving. My wife was incredibly upset with the experience and wish we hadn't even considered them. I don't know their mission, but the business model isn't suited for any mortuary service. Based on this atrocious encounter, I'd prefer to give them absolutely no stars; however, this is the only way to make a comment. No one wants to have to deal with these types of decisions, but if the time comes, steer away from Horan & McConaty Funeral Services.

I have been trying to reach out to anyone at Horan who is in charge and can assist me in obtaining a portion of my father’s cremated remains which are being housed with them. As of this date, no one seems to want to reach me or contact me back. I started by leaving a message on Facebook. Received a call back and was told Emily Johnson would contact me. When she called, she left me a voicemail message and I was never able to reach her after that. She did not return any of my calls or messages. After three days of no calls back, I called and spoke to Shanice (? spelling) who was able to confirm that my dad’s remains were still with the funeral home. She told me that only a funeral director could answer my questions, and said she would have Amy White contact me. However, Amy White has never called back either. Although people are polite on the phone, I’m still not getting the answers I want. I also am disappointed in the fact that I was told my dad’s wife’s daughter was his daughter. That’s not the case. I am his only surviving blood relative, and although I am not local in the area, and therefore was not among the persons who came in person to make arrangements, ai am no less important and I don’t appreciate being treated as though I’m not an immediate family member when I’m the closest living relation to him. My dad passed away a little over a month ago now, and I’m only trying to see about options to obtain a small portion of his cremated remains. If this cannot be done, for whatever reason, i understand, but I would appreciate being told this and not given the run around for a week or more. This sort of brush-off of requests is not good service, and is not ‘Horan cares’ in my opinion. It is certainly not the consideration I would expect as a grieving relation. Additionally, I would like to note that the date of death on my dad’s published obituary from Horan is incorrect. I have now had to explain this to my relatives to whom I sent the web link. It’s stressful to see my dad’s details treated so disrespectfully. This is just another painful reminder for my family. I would appreciate speaking to a manager or someone in charge, to discuss my concerns and questions, and provide me with information or answers. I don’t feel that’s too much to expect as his daughter.
