Super cool, educational, interesting, inspiring! Needless to say we had a great time with the Denver Astronomical Society night at Chamberlin Observatory. You have to make reservations a fair bit in advance but if you pray you'll have a perfectly clear night like we did. A short talk before heading up to the telescope (1894) wets the appetite and it doesn't disappoint. We looked at a cluster galaxy, Saturn with clear rings and 5 moons, and then a trinary star system made up of a blue star and two amber ones. Reservation started at 8:30 and we got out of there shortly after 10. A little late for a school night but worth it.

The experience was out of this world!!

Super cool telescope and building. Definitely worth taking the tour!

I studied Taijichuan on the grounds there for a decade, and I still haven't attended an astronomical event there. Someday.

I'm not sure about that. The observatory isn't open all the time, but they do have special events. I believe it's part of Denver University, so maybe check their website?
Best bet, Tom, is to attend one of our upcoming Open House events at DU's historic Chamberlin Observatory - twitter.com/Chamberlin_Obs - where you can meet like-minded telescope owners who can provide tips and hints for your ETX. Next Open House is this coming Sat, Jan.12th, sunset til 11pm. Then Feb.9th, etc.
They usually have public nights on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Check their website for availability because they fill up fast.
No; but for four bucks, you can come by any Tuesday or Thursday night and attend a public night. Or come by tomorrow night (4/21), pay two bucks, for our Open House, and see it that way. Obviously, you won't be able to use the telescope. You'll either be able to look through or at the telescope, depending on the weather. To attend a public night, you have to pay at the Denver Astronomical Society's website. It's usually booked up (sold out) a month in advance. For tomorrow's Open House, you just show up and pay.
Every month they have a Star Party on a Saturday Night but I'm not sure of the dates, you can check out the website for the Denver Astronomical Society and as for the price it is a big smile and a thank you. Hope this helps and have a great time
