I am a 8 year survivor of ovarian cancer and still fighting. BCBS covered everything, and pre-certified all my chemo and procedures, usually within 24 hours. Texas moved to Aetna for teacher's insurance and their pre-certification company, American Health Holdings denied my claim for chemotherapy (carboplatin and taxol) and delayed my chemo for 2 weeks. Their general oncologist who reviewed my 8 year file for a few minutes decided he knew better than my Board Certified doctor in Gynecologic Oncology (by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology) who has kept me alive against the odds, and denied my request. My Gynecologic Oncologist had to take the time to convince the quack at AHH that he was the best qualified to make treatment decisions for me. AHH is NOT a patient advocate and only care about ROI (according to their website) as a metric of success. I will do everything in my power to make sure people are aware of this reprehensible company. Aetna ought to be ashamed for using these people.

In Feb, I had a couple of tests done at the doctor's office. About a month later I received a notification from the dr's office saying that this bill was late and I called the billing department, their staff told me that it seems the insurance company needs an update. So I called the insurance company, they asked a couple of questions such as "do you have another insurance" etc. They said it was all up-to-date and good. Then a few months later, I got a final notice from my dr's office, apparently, the insurance company never paid the bill!! So I called the insurance company again, they said 'oh it has been updated, but I don't know why your claims are just sitting here'. Btw, they still have not gotten my DOB right (I made about 4 phone calls to them last year just to get my name and DOB right, I was told when I made this call that my DOB is still not right). They said the claims will be processed. So I told the dr's office that. The check was supposed to be sent out to the dr's office on the 19th August, I called the dr's office on the 23rd, they hadn't received the check yet. I thought it might take a few days given the weekend etc. Today, I got a discharge letter from the dr's office!! what can I do so that the claims are not sitting there for FIVE months??!!!
