Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Cincinnati is doing important and meaningful work in our community, matching kids with mentors who can help them reach their full potential. I've been a Big Sister for 5 years and it's been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Shout out to Recruitment & Site Based Director, Debbie Mollette for encouraging me to become a Big, and for all the amazing work she and her team do every day to deliver on BBBS's vision of helping all youth achieve their full potential.

I have been a Big volunteer since December 2019 and my experience has been nothing short of amazing! When the site based coordinator I came in under left for other opportunities I was immediately introduced to Debbie Mollette. She has been the continuity in my site based match and has helped me be able to build and foster the relationship I have with my Little. Whether it’s planning activities that are fun, educational, and help us all grow through the pandemic, she has been stellar in her role. I’m not sure whether BBBS found me or I found it, but I’m glad I’m able to give back and pour into the life of my little. I’m also glad that Deb is the glue that has helped site based grow and stay connected.

BBBS is a fantastic organization that I have been involved with for 6 years now. From top to bottom the organization represents nothing but class, and truly puts their mission before all else, which is to be defenders of potential for the children they serve. An organization that truly makes a lasting impact on children's lives. If you haven't had Debbie at your organization for a lunch and learn yet, then you definitely need to, she will have you leaving a believer in no time!

I can’t say enough good things about the BBBS crew in Cincinnati. From top to bottom, the BBBS staff cares about each big, and each little, as if you are the agency’s only match. For most of my time involved with the agency, Debbie has been my go-to person and is always available to answer any questions I have, and often anticipates them before they even arise. I am not quite sure Debbie and the rest of the team manage so many relationships with the care and attention that they do, but I am forever grateful for it. If you are reading this, and are not already a “big” - get involved!

Questions & Answers

How does this program work? Is it once a week? How long is the commitment?

Is it a child or volunteer. Both commit fot a year. Can be site based or community based. Meet at least once a week. Do different activities or outings. Thats the basic of the program but it is actually a lot more involved than that.

What qualifies you for the big sister program.

You would complete an interview with an enrollment specialist and see if you qualify. Having the time to spend with the child and the patience for children are very important. You also have to complete a background check and some online training. But it doesn't cost.
