Thanks to the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife for their hard work on American Horse (Am Horse) and the 11 other Department lakes across the State. And thanks for everything you do for all the other waters we enjoy. If you want to learn how to fish heavy cover including timber, brushpiles, and deep grass beds, Am Horse is the best school in the State. On the weekends, you can even learn how to fish pressured waters during the Spring amd Summer months. It's also a great lake to learn about the new graph (a.k.a. fish finder) you're getting this Christmas. :) I think it's the best lake around to learn deep water grass techniques, especially if you intend to fish tournaments on grass reservoirs but can't go there right away. I've painted deep grass (coontail) as shallow as 4 and as deep as 20 feet with arches in and right above it. I've caught largemouth to 5 lbs. on big Zoom worms, Swimmin and Super Flukes, Drop Shots with Tiny Flukes and Z-Craws. A 1/2 oz Boss Brush jig and a Z-Craw or Z-Craw Jr. trailer will also get bit whenever the water is wet. I'm learning a lot about fishing suspending jerkbaits there this year also. Am Horse isn't great because all these things exist, it's great because you'll catch good largemouth while improving your skills as a bass angler. Thanks to the USAF, I spent 18 years in Northwest Louisiana, 3 years in Southern Alabama and 3 years in South Dakota before moving to Central Oklahoma. I've been blessed to fish a lot of different bass waters from Louisiana and Alabama cypress lakes and swamps to South Dakota marshes. With the exception of cypress trees, Am Horse has it all. It reminds me of a miniature Toledo Bend. Just my take on a great little lake. Mark
