I’ve been to the Huntington er department before and was surprised how quick and helpful they were. I literally felt so much better with the medication they immediately gave me. However this last experience was the complete opposite. I’ve had my fair share in er experiences but this tops it. I got to the er at 7:55p and didn’t get called in until 9:22. It’s currently 10:30 and i am literally still awaiting to see someone. The nurse that took my vitals literally took them and left out without saying a word. Then registration came to verify my insurance info and left. I then waited a full hour just to even speak to someone. And still no one came. I literally walked out simply because i had better chances of getting seen at a regular urgent care. I’m so disappointed.

I waited over 9 hours in the ER for me to zoom with a psychiatrist, so by the time we met it was around 11:30pm/midnight. The psychiatrist was nice and most of the afternoon staff were nice as well (The nurse, Alissa, was particularly kind). However, after my zoom with the psychiatrist, they literally kicked my 80 year old mother and I out of the ER at 2:30 am, when I was suffering from severe neurological issues and was completely unable to drive at this point. My mother is 80 years old and can’t see at night, so she couldn’t drive either. At this point my dizziness and nausea had been worsening and we pleaded to stay the night, so I could rest (which the psychiatrist said was extremely important for my brain to heal) and they refused and kicked us out. I had also wanted to be monitored due to my physical symptoms, which were worse than they had been but they refused. The night time staff (the people the ugh re after 1am) were horrendously cruel and callous. I had never been kicked out of an ER in the middle of the night like that, when I was still so sick. It was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had in healthcare. I was completely unsafe to drive home but forced myself to anyway because my mother can’t see in the dark. And they kicked us out with such horrible attitudes....they could have been much more tactful about it. I wish I had gotten names but the majority of the staff after 1am was extremely unprofessional. Andrew (I think that was his name, but I’m unsure) was the only one who was professional and caring. They also kick you out of the rooms and stick you in the middle of the hallways and then keep the rooms empty. So they have patients in hallways with many completely empty rooms. Stay away at all costs!!!!! This is one of the worst emergency rooms on all of Long Island. The nighttime staff treated us so poorly, it was unconscionable.

The emergency room staff, including doctors and nurses was absolutely terrific. My one problem? Sitting in the waiting room I was force-fed a diet of FOX News and commentary on their big-screen TV. It doesn't seem at all appropriate that a public waiting room in a hospital should (even subliminally) be taking a political stand by its choice of channels being shown.. The TV should be tuned to an apolitical station, either a generic news station or an entertainment station.

Earlier today I went to the ER earlier today and had the kindest nurse I could ever ask for. I had the best experience I have ever had at a hospital thanks to Kerry. She was so patient and calm. She went above and beyond to make sure I felt comfortable. She even got my vein for bloodwork on the first try. Her bedside manner was the best I’ve ever had. Thanks nurse Kerry for being the best! I will definitely be returning to Huntington Hospital for all of my future health needs.
