Honestly not an ideal place for an Angelman Syndrome individual even though they are an AS clinic. There is a lack of consistency, we had some great physicians then next thing you know, they are gone. You have good communication on the app, then next thing you know they barely answer you back even after several messages. You cant contact their office directly, you have to contact another office that will then reach out to the people you need (that's highly inconvenient). This place needs some re-evaluation and realize the seriousness of the kind of patients they have. These are kids/adults with a rare disorder with parents that need WAY more than the average amount of help to seek resources/assistance. Plus, dont bother with NYU for other services like PT, they are not experienced with I/DD individuals. Im just disappointed this is how it turned out, ive always had high regards for NYU and from other parents, its not the first time ive heard negative things about this place. All i can say is please try harder for the experience of the parents and the patients that are coming to you guys because more than likely, we are coming to you with many years of hardship and still a lot of confusion/burden. We cant take on more frustration from an establishment that is supposed to be reputable and provide quality care. Organization and consistency is key!

I've been coming here for over a year and it's an awful experience each time. They are extremely disorganized. The doctors try to push you into being a test subject in their research studies which have nothing to do with the issues you come to them about. They are unresponsive, and don't care when you're having an emergency. I've had issues with getting medications refilled - I contacted them a week prior to needing a refill and they sent a prescription which wasn't authorized. They're unavailable on weekends. They just care about collecting their checks and acting like the best epileptologists in the world.

Outstanding center with incredible physicians who treat the whole patient. I've been visiting the clinic for a decade now.

Excellent physicians, but it is almost impossible to reach a live person via the phone. There are no hours on the website of this place. The good news is that you can communicate to the doctor via the NYU Langone MyChart app, which makes things much better.

Questions & Answers

I,ve been treated by the upstate Medial Center NeurologyDept for many yrs due to comprehensive epileptic seizures . Through a lobotomy and medications the seizures are controlled . Is there a way to access what states would grant driving privileges ?

I think you need to go through the Department of Motor Vehicles for that information

I am researching seizure alert watches or bracelets for my son. Do you have any recommendations?

We have used the Empatica Embrace in a research project. So far it seems good at detecting convulsions. Some people have struggled a little with synching the watches with smartphones, but this's usually resolved easily enough.
