Hike was short but steep AF. Views were okay at the top. Very hard on the knees coming down.

Trail up to Kings Mountain (w/o Elk loop) is 2.5 miles one way and is uphill pretty much nonstop. Gorgeous forest and panoramic views at the top. I do wish the trail was designed with at least one plateau to break up the constant climb. Bit rocky so poles would be great on the way down. Overall a great way to get to one of the highest points in Tillamook SF.

Parking: very easy on a Thursday afternoon in mid-June 2022. The hike: the first quarter is lush and dense. The sounds of water from nearby streams is really pleasant. Less lush but still very green as you progress up. This isn’t a hike for the faint of heart (or hamstrings or glutes or calves) because you’ll ascend about 2,500 ft over the next few miles. Even on a cloudy day, the view is pretty glorious. I advise not going back down via Elk mtn. If you want to make it a loop, go up Elk and down King.

Great hike! I do it ever year as a kick off to regular hiking season. It's an uphill that will show you just how out of shape you have become if you took it easy over the winter! It's also a great hike to just do for fun if you are into that sort of thing ;)

About 600 feet at the trailhead and 3200 feet at the summit, I believe.
