they charge by the day to let your dog walk around and poop on peoples graves, but many, many graves are in very poor shape. the funds clearly are not being used to restore them. but ive never seen a cemetery with that kind of income or any policy like that. i was subjected to transphobic treatment by a volunteer; i do not know if any action was taken. but i never heard back. i am a spirit medium and my ad on their board was taken down after about a month. idk if its related. say what you want about mediums: im not letting my animal literally take a dump on the graves. actually i was hoping to volunteer to help restore them. but those opportunities are gone for the summer. the cemetery is overall beautiful but i would never let myself be buried there. edit: reduced from 2 to 1 star for lying in your reply.

Hard to find a single negative here. The grounds were beautiful and well kept the tombstones seemed well cared for and the whole atmosphere felt like a warm and vibrant place. Great history was to had for sure and it is majestic in size! Absolutely five stars.

What an incredible place. While the cemetery is a burial ground, it's also a place of life. There is an active dog walking program, outdoor movies in the summer, historical theater in the Fall, and of course the amazing history of interred residents. Visit! It's free and you won't regret it.

This cemetery is essentially a dog-park that happens to have a lot of graves. I was initially surprised the prevalence of dogs but later learned their dog-walking program subsidizes 25% of their operating budget. An innovative approach to staying financially solvent. Maybe Congressional is on to something. Should we revisit how we utilize sacred spaces in our modern community? There are still several issues that bothered me during my visit today. 1) I witnessed multiple dogs scratching at a tomb while the owner did nothing. The tomb appeared to be marble, so probably not a significant scratch. However, the concept is rather appalling to me. 2) I saw three young woman having a picnic and appeared to be drinking alcohol. Is Congressional trying to become a new BarkHaus? This whole thing looked in bad taste. 3) Its obnoxious to hear constant “come here” or clapping/whistling dog noises as you walk around. The grounds are well maintained and there are some really unique people buried here. Worth a brief visit

How many Woodmen of the World Memorials are in the cemetery?

Rusty Wilson | Oct 21, 2019

You should call the cemetery for that information. But a very good question. I had to look up Woodmen of the World. Never knew it existed. Thank you for a great question.

Photos are allowed! If you're using a tripod though, be aware that there are dogs running around. Keep an eye on the camera legs (and your own!).

Do you have to have a membership to walk your dogs here. Also are there pools or ponds or any other water activity for them there.

Yes, but $10 day passes are available at the gate with the gatecheckers. There are faucets all over with bowls as well as a nice small and clean p ip nd near the mausoleums.

Is the cemetary open during weekend ? I don't care about the tours, I just want to walk in the cemetary.

Can we drive around the cemetery ?

Do you mean outside the cemetery or inside it? Cars aren't allowed inside except for funerals. You can drive around two sides of the perimeter outside the cemetery. The other two sides are a) a closed highway ramp and b) the Anacostia river.

I am looking for my grandfather and his name is Clyde Holbrook. I believe that he died in 1978 and he has no middle name.

According to our records we have nobody here by that name.

How do you get there using the metro

David Kaetzel | Oct 21, 2017
Di “Di Soul” Gamble | Oct 21, 2019

The cemetary is located on Potomac Ave, though in my opinion, stadium-armory metro station is the closest. There is a very short walk from either station.
