100% recommend!!! We are from a different state visiting and my mom had a heart scare so we promptly drove her to this hospital. They brought my mom back to a room almost immediately after checking in. They are very attentive, competent, patient and explained things very thoroughly. The individuals who are supposed to accept cardiac cases try whatever they can to refuse patients. I do NOT trust this facility. I would not send my family to be treated by the inpatient cardiology service. This is so disappointing as this could be such a great resource for the community. I've spoken with their transfer director about this issue directly and it hasn't changed--I feel the public should know.

I received excellent care when I was a patient. The nurses were great and my primary nurse couldn't have been better. My doctor explained everything to me and made sure I understood, he answered my questions in layman's language. I have no qualms about going again.

A hotel is attached to the hospital, don't know the rates or how to register though.
I would be surprised if you receive a response to this. You could look on their website and/or call them or check some of the media sites and see if they are keeping statistics.
Prairie Guest House rooms are available on a first come, first serve basis as a courtesy to our patients and their family members. I would recommend calling the concierge at 977-7000 if you have further questions as they would be more knowledgeable.
Dr. Kevin Vaska is an independent cardiologist who is part of Sioux Falls Cardiovascular (not part of the North Central Heart Institute physician group), but he practices at both Avera Heart Hospital and Avera McKennan Hospital.
