I contacted the law firm of Genser,Dubow & Cona shortly after my son, Stephen was in a horrible car accident that left him brain damaged in 1999. I confirmed with David Genser that the charges to open up a trust fund for my brother’s IRA money would be no more than $2,500. At the time of his accident, his IRA balance was over $140,000. I just became aware in September of 2013, that the law firm had charged over 35,000 in legal fees. It seems that David Genser turned this responsibility over to his son , Jack Genser & his wife Jennifer Cona. When I saw bills exceeding $7,000, I immediately fired Jennifer Cona and the law firm of Genser & Dubow. Somehow Jennifer Cona had my brain damaged son sign some papers that made Ms. Cona the trustee and the law firm continued to bill my brother. In addition, Ms. Cona filed all the social services paperwork in the wrong state, which cost my brother another $45,000 in medical charges that the state should have paid for. Also. The trust was changed from it’s original institution to UJF ( United Jewish Fund) an organization that Ms. Cona supports. UJF has sinced claimed that they charged my brother for $50,000 dollars for cigarettes (and four dinners) that supposedly my brother had smoked; eventhough he was only let out of the hospital 2 times a day to smoke. To date, my brother has no money left of his original $140,000. I went down to the law office of Genser & Dubow to see if they would rectify this situation and after the meeting, David Genser, Howard Dubow, & Jack Genser all agreed that the charges were extreme and that they would do what ever they could to make the situation Right. They made me wait 4 months to our next meeting and told me that there was nothing they could do & that they could not find the invoices that they charged my son for.

I’m not one to normally write any reviews good or bad about anyone. But in this case as they say, better late than never. I just attended this past Monday the annual L.I.A.D golf outing which Jennifer Cona is on the Board of trustees. I was referred to Jennifer 20 years ago at the time we found out that my mother who was 81 was at the beginning stages of Alzheimer’s. At that time there was only a three year look back but that meant we still needed to move quickly. Jennifer and her staff helped me complete all the necessary forms and move all the assets into only my father’s name. In my mind, there was no way we could have done any of that ourselves. We then were able to qualify my mom for Medicaid. She lived in a nursing home for 7 years before she passed. My father was also able to live in his own home and passed a year before my mom. So, the costs of Jennifer’s services, were nothing compared to what would have been the approximate $750,000.00 cost of the nursing home, and medications my mom had before she passed. I can only thank Jennifer over and over for her services. Although it’s her job, and she is very good at it, in a time of so many uncertainties she was a pleasure to work with.

I strongly do not recommend! Stacy was very rude and unprofessional prior to speaking with an attorney about my property estate. I asked to leave a message for an attorney/office manger and spoke with another receptionist, I’m assuming because never addressed who she was... They refused to let me speak to anyone and then the call was disconnected.

Terrible experience. Would not recommend Cona Elder Law to anyone. They worked on my mother's Medicaid application for almost 5 months and charged me close to $15,000. The application was incomplete. My wife and I spent a month gathering the missing information. We made dozens of phone calls to financial institutions. We made trips up to the bank. We must have spent close to 50 hours doing the work we paid Cona Elder Law to do. It was a nightmare. It was the very last thing you need in the wake of losing a loved one. Two associates in particular were very difficult to work with, Melissa Negrin-Wiener and Diana Choy-Shan. Do yourself a favor, avoid them!
