I enjoyed this small park as it has a lot of history that dates back way before recorded time! Definitely worth stopping and spending an hour or so! You definitely feel the temperature change while in the cave!

Nice place to stop in for a short visit! They have a bark program if you bring your dog they can complete for a bark ranger tag to go on their collar! Walk to cave is short and easy! If you do the hiking trail be prepared for a straight uphill climp to the top of the mountain! I would not reccomend for young kids or the elderly!

While it's not a huge park it's definitely worth a visit. Much better for a quick stop to stretch your legs or have a picnic than an interstate rest area. The history of the area tells the story of the people that have called this area home for more than 10,000 years.

We really enjoyed our visit to the National Monument at Russell Cave. We visited the cave shelter area and also did the 1.2 mi hike. Just FYI- the hike is not a flat pass. It can be considered strenuous with lots of uphill and switchbacks. Bring hydration/water especially in the humid Alabama hot summer. We came prepared with water and hiking boots and allowed for time to stop and rest. It is very shaded and a good paved trail but don't want anyone caught unaware. Great for nature lovers! We also participated in the BARK Ranger program and applaud the NPS for their upstanding work and education!

No.. you walk to the end of a boardwalk and look at the mouth of a cave.It is still a nice time.
Russell Cave is an archaeological site with one of the most complete records of prehistoric cultures in the Southeast.
I did not see facilities for camping. This is a very small park. One drive in and out. Information center and short nature trails.
Yes, easy and senick views with information posted and one that you crank for it to play.
No it's free, they have a a little gift shop that helps with the up keep, it's a nice place to go to and see
No. The area open to the public is blocked off just under the entrance overhang. It's prone to flooding and they are trying to protect it from damage. Honestly, the main "room" is the large entrance shelter, anyway. I was told that previous teams that tried to explore in the past found the tunnels are too small for humans and don't go very far.
There are 117 national monuments in the US
