I picked the season, picked the weather, picked the trail to see the fall in NC. Would recommend. Tough going to do the loop in a day though!!!

Beautiful trail even in the winter! I love hiking when I can see through the forest and the added serenity of a snow covered trail makes it even more inviting. It started out very steep and that was unexpected as it's very gradual. My nephew and I hadn't hiked in quite some time and the distance we traversed really wiped us out. So, if you want something a bit on the challenging side that pays off in scenery, this trail is your ticket.

Very steep hike, but worth it, and can link to trail at top that hikes through to Mt. Mitchell. Trail is just shy of 4mi. and is ranked, difficult. It's very well maintained, and trail blazers (yellow) are well posted. There is a sitting bench about half way up. Also, primitive camping is permitted. Across from the trail head, is a river with many great places to sun bath and relax: great for family picnics!

Questions & Answers

Is it allowed/safe to leave cars here overnight?

We had parked our car for two nights without any issues. There is only space for about 4 cars at the lot.
