Direct Primary Care (DPC) is a new and rapidly growing model of primary care where the patient and the doctor have removed the insurance "middle man" from the picture. Each DPC varies in details, but it usually covers all of the patient's basic primary care for a low monthly rate. A DPC doctor also has less patients in their practice, which means that you get more time with a doctor who knows you better, and you can be seen more easily for urgent issues than an over-booked traditional practice.

The goal is to meet all of the primary care needs, from well visits to problem/sick visits. Dr. Shumway even does many outpatient procedures, such as joint injections, skin biopsies, lesion removal, suturing (stitching), ear lavage, and more. The vast majority of common medical issues can be handled right here. Sometimes, certain issues may need the help of a specialist or a hospital visit to make sure you are getting the best care. Dr. Shumway can help give guidance in those situations as well. This is all included in the low monthly rate!

Yes! All are welcome, from newborns to adults of any age.

People both without insurance and those with any type of health share or health insurance except for AHCCCS plans can become patients at Shumway Family Medicine! Insurance can be used for things like referrals, lab testing, and imaging orders. Since it is a Direct Primary Care Practice, office visits are not billed to insurance. Instead, a flat low monthly rate covers all office visits, most in-office procedures, in-office testing, and other communications (referrals, phone calls, emails, etc.).
